I have some time and am considering United's promo to Cabo. This will be my first visit there. The hotels I'm considering are Presidente Intercontinental Los Cabos ($419 / 3 days) and Costa Real Cabo Resort and Spa ($299 / 3 days).
I don't need alot of frills, just a clean room close to the beach.

Can anyone offer any info on either of these two hotels? OR, are there better options that someone can suggest? Thanks in advance....

check tripadvisor.com

is the air only option offered? depending on how low it is it may leave you enough money to get a room many other places which may be nicer, also check last call thru RCI and skyauction.com

We stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental Los Cabos for our honeymoon in 4-1997 The resort was nice, and clean. The draw backs were the food and drinks were below average, and the resort is about 20 MILES FROM CABO. It is within walking distance to a smaller town called San Jose Del Cabo. If your looking for a clean resort with out the best, This Resort will do fine.

This place used to be called Plaza Las Glorias and is right on the marina in Cabo. I think it's now an all-inclusive. I could never recommend that anyone stay at Plaza Las Glorias, but I don't know if things have changed with the new name and AI.

I'd advise you to do some more research. There are a lot of much better places to stay in Cabo.

I agree with the comments, if you are looking for an inexpensive trip this is fine, you will still get to experience the area but there are some real nice resorts there.

You didn't say what time frame you were looking for or if the prices you quoted were for just one person, but here are a couple of things I found on the RCI Extra Vacations list that would give you something to compare:

Sol Mar Beach Club Resort
2353 Cabo San Lucas, BCS, MEXICO 4/2 08/05/2005 - 08/05/2005 $384.99

Villa del Palmar Cabo San Lucas
3165 Cabo San Lucas, BCS, MEXICO 4/2 07/16/2005 - 08/06/2005 $546.69

Both of these listings would be for seven nights in a studio with a mini-kitchen.

If the prices you quoted included air fare as well as rooms, that's another consideration. The rates for the two places listed would be for the suites only, no airfare. But, would you be paying all-inclusive fees on top of the rates you listed?

If given a choice, I'd pick either of the two resorts listed above before the El Presidente or the Costa Real (Plaza Las Glorias). But my first choice for Cabo is Pueblo Bonito (Rose or Blanco).

Hi!

My wife and I did the United vacations package to Cabo 2 months ago. We got 3 nights + airfare from SFO for $299 each, plus I think $80 each for out-of-the -country flights. (I forgot what this fee is called, but it is charged on all international flights, and the amount varies. ALWAYS verify this amount beforehand so that you know what you'll really be paying.)

Our hotel was the Posada Real, in San Jose Los Cabos. (This was a few blocks from the Presidente) Our hotel was quite sufficient, with free drinks all day and an inexpensive restaurant. The Presidente is nicer, from what I understand. (Our shuttle to the airport stopped there and we talked with a couple who had enjoyed it). But do be aware that San Jose Los Cabos is 25km from Cabo San Lucas. San Jose is a nice little town - not touristy at all - unlike Cabo. But the beaches in San Jose are not swimmable.

So, it depends on what you want: Nightlife and salt-water swimming? Stay in Cabo. But just a relaxing place to stay and soak up the sun? San Jose is the better choice, IMHO. The all-inclusive upgrade at the Presidente was only $50-$70, if I remember correctly, and if you want to save money and don't demand fine dining, I'd take that deal.

On the other hand, if you want a NICE place to stay in Cabo San Lucas, and don't mind paying more for meals, any of the Pueblo Bonito resorts are incredible. The Blanco and Rose are on the swimmable beach, the Sunset Beach is out of town and has a gorgeous, unswimmable beach. Check TUG classifieds for rentals. As hotels, they're quite pricey!

Most of all, beware the Timeshare salespeople. I know the sales pitches; I've even rescinded a few contracts. But while the prices in Cabo seem low compared to the US, they are still double the resale value. Take a tour if you'd like, but don't buy. If you love the place, log onto TUG and buy resale for half the price. I wish I had... (Mexican laws have seem to have no teeth when it comes to rescinding!)
