I can pull several resorts for Jan/Feb next year, and can't decide among them. I've whittled them down to a short list, but I just can't seem to get enuf info to go YEAH, THAT ONE!It's just me and hubby, and while my primary interest is being able to walk to the beach, he'll be more into touristy things. Looks like any of the islands have plenty of that. Anyone with an opinion, please bring it on: Diamond Las Calas, Puerto del Carmen El Marques, Puerto de Santiago Club Tarahal, Puerto de la Cruz Club Ambassador Parque Farrais, Puerto de la Cruz Camel's Spring Club, Costa Teguise Club Tenerife, Arona Apartamentos Tropical Park, Adeje Club Cala Blanca, Mogan The Paradise Club, Adeje Thanks for any info. If I can make this exchange happen, it'll be my first vacation ever using a passport ; ) IP: Logged |

I can't vouch for any of the resorts you list but do have an opinion on the Canary Islands. I have been Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria and if I was to pick my favorite it would have to be Gran Canaria. Club Cala Blanca is a Sunterra resort and receives favourable reviews from members, although I've not stayed there myself. The nearest village to the resort Puerto de Mogan is lovely and has a nice (but busy) market to wander around which I think is held twice a week.Others may be able to help you with other resorts you list. If you intend to tour the island then Gran Canaria has more to offer. Club Cala Blanca is the only resort you have listed on that island. It is set on the side of a valley overlooking the small resort village of Taurito and is about 3kms from Puerto Mogan. You will nedd to rent a car as the resort is some 60+ kms from the airport and quite a drive from the neasrest main resort town of Puerto Rico. If you can get an exchange into one of the Anfi Resorts this would be much better for you. Geekette, If you were to join TUG you would get access to all the reviews on offer. ------------------ Bruce E. Tenerife is the best in my opinion. It is the most beautiful of these islands. You can see my travel photos on Webshots. There is also photos from Paradise Club, which isnīt my favourite, but new units are really nice. http://community.webshots.com/user/ssaikko IP: Logged |

We have been to Gran Canaria and stayed at the Anfi Beach Club.. It turned out to be one of our most memorable trips. I would like to visit Tenerife next.. Which is the best rated, most deluxe RCI resort in Tenerife? The reviews on TUG are all outdated for Tenerife. Bruce you're the inhouse expert on the Canaries.. any recommendations? ------------------ "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the places and moments that take our breath away." Here's my different opinion: From your list, I'd pick Club Tarahal and/or Camel's Spring Club. My favorite islands were Tenerife (north and central, not south) and Lanzarote (all except Puerto del Carmen). We loved our stay at Club Tarahal in northern Tenerife very much, fell in love with the little historic city of Puerto de la Cruz (lots to do there), and our unit had a fabulous sea view, but it's a bit of a walk to the beach (all downhill there, not bad; all uphill on the way home tho.) Personally we didn't care for southern Tenerife. Also loved Costa Teguise area of Lanzarote, and I'm 99% sure Camel's Spring Club is about 1/2 block from an uncrowded beach we liked a lot. I also love black sand beaches - you may not. Gran Canaria is a beautiful island, but it's big, IMO the timeshares were in more crowded not-so-scenic areas, and it was a drive to get to the spectacular central mountain and northern regions. The Anfi resorts are destinations in and of themselves, if you are going for sun, beach and pool plus gorgeous architecture - but the beach there is trucked-in sand, and my personal preference is for more natural beach settings. There's a beautiful natural beach not too far at Maspalomas - but the roads, driving and parking there were nerve-wracking to us. Our problem may have been it was the week before Easter - probably better in more off-season times. Edited to add: seriously consider going to at least 2 islands while you're there - 3 is even better. Like the Hawaiian islandsd, they're all different, and very worthwhile, and the inter-island flights are cheap. And if you select Gran Canaria, I also encourage you to hold out for an Anfi! I don't know what you're trading, but Anfi did require my best GC trader. [This message has been edited by Laurie (edited 03-10-2005).] IP: Logged |

fabulous! thank you so much for the detailed info! I did find that I can follow with an Extra Vacation under $300, so may try 2 weeks/2 islands. I can't see Anfi. Not a shock, I don't have a great trader. With some luck - and a patient hubby - this won't be a once in a lifetime deal and I'll have a major trader then. thanks so much, everyone - the planning is such a blast! IP: Logged |

Not sure about the best resort on Tenerife. Overall luxury is not always my priority. There are some very good resorts around the world that, for one reson or anorther, do not command GC status but can, in most respects, be as good. The best area to stay is either along the south west coast towards Los Gigantes or on the north west coast in Puerta de la Cruz. IMHO Tenerife is OK but it is dominated by Mount Teide and there are not many roads across the island from one side to the other. As for Gran Canaria there are more routes into the interior and some spectacular scenery. GC is only the third biggest of the islands but it does have much more diversity that the others. ------------------ Bruce E. Thanks Bruce.. there must be more opinions out there?? Can anyone think of a true Gold Crown on Tenerife that they would recommend. There seems to be a great deal of availability on this island but I'm not sure about the quality of the resorts. I would appreciate any insight.------------------ "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the places and moments that take our breath away." Anonymous IP: Logged |

iiderman, I can only tell you about one we've seen, not stayed at. While in Puerto de la Cruz, we stopped in at Club Casablanca, which is rated GC. The reception area was lovely, but the 1-BR unit we were shown seemed very small and dark (and had no sea view, which matters not to many, but does to me). This was for future reference, since we could imagine returning to Puerto de la Cruz. After seeing Casablanca, I'd choose Club Tarahal again - a 2-BR since I believe they all have sea views. It does have a very nice roof-top pool, and daily maid service as I recall. I doubt you'll find an Anfi on Tenerife, but don't let that hold you back. Someone else can tell you about the southern resorts. IP: Logged |

Bear in mind that there is potentially a huge difference between GC resorts in the Canary Islands and those in the US. Expectations in the two regions are very different. ------------------ Regards Keith IP: Logged |

El Marques in Puerto Santiago is a pleasant resort. It adjoins Los Gigantes with its harbour and magnificent cliffs. There is a tiny beach in Los Gigantes and a larger one at Playa Arena about 4 mins by car from the resort. This is a black volcanic sand beach... interesting. The remainder of the area is very rocky. Please be aware that the whole area is very hilly and getting anywhere on foot will involve an uphil stretch of some considerable effort at some staqe. One such is known by local as Cardiac Hill!! Lots of small bars and restaurants, local Canarian dishes as well as international. Reasonable bus service to the North and along the coast as well. IP: Logged |

We go to the Canary Islands twice a year. Lanzarote is lovely. On Tenerife we have stayed near Playa Arena, Puerto de la Cruz and Costa Adeje (Playa Fanabe) which is not too far from Los Gigantes. We stayed at the Parque del Sol which is about one block from the Fanabe beach. Fantastic swimming pools on the beach in Peurto de la Cruz! IP: Logged |
