I am interested in visiting the Banff area, and wondered when the ice melts in Lake Louise. From reading the reviews of the resorts in the area, someone mentioned that they were in Banff in June one year and the lake was still frozen over. Is this typical? Is the lake always still frozen in May? Any info would be great. Thanks, Steve IP: Logged |

I've been in Banff/Lake Louise in June although it was about 10 years ago. Lake Louise was not frozen over. In fact, I think my friends went canoeing in the lake. Make sure you layer your clothing because the temperature varies during the day.Try the info on this website. There are snowfall/rainfall statistics for Banff and Lake Louise at the bottom of the page. http://www.worldweb.com/parkscanada-banff/weather.html Mercedes

Steve, if you do decide to go, make sure you visit Moraine Lake. We found it to be the most beautiful sight we have ever seen. I think it is about 40 minutes farther than Lake Louise.Dori IP: Logged |

Actually...you turn off the Trans Canada Highway at Lake Louise then on your way up to the lake (Louise) you will see another sign for Moraine Lake. Moraine is about 11km (5-6 miles) up this other road. "BE SURE" you DO, go see Moraine lake....It's the most beautiful spot you might ever see! ------------------ Greg IP: Logged |

The ice is usually off the lake and surrounding trails in May. Most years it would melt by early to mid May, but in the rare bad year, it might get as late as the first bit of June.IP: Logged |
