I see several resorts in the Beaupre, QC region for may 2006. Is this a convient drive to Quebec City and will the snow be gone? Will the foothills be dry enough to hike the trails or will I need skis?IP: Logged |

Beaupré is very near Quebec City and a rental car would be very handy. There will not be any snow left at all. There is great potential for hikes all around the Quebec City region, including Beaupré. I would also recommend an excursion to Ile d'Orleans, easily accessible from Beaupré. For more info: http://www.bonjourquebec.com/anglais/index.html May is one of my favorite months up here and I definitely recommend snapping up an exchange in this period (especially a week that has Quebec's national holiday : May 24th).

Quebec's National Holiday (Fete Nationale)is on June 24th. It would be a great time to be there. All of the Quebec City region is beautiful and warm in late May. There are many places to go and things to visit. Quebec City is only a 30 minute drive from Mont Ste. Anne. Make sure you visit the shrine of Ste. Anne at Beaupre.

We were just there during Quebec's National Holiday. I don't know if they do this every year, but the Musee de la Civilisation in Old Quebec was free all day and open until 9 pm. The changing of the guard at La Citadelle also starts on June 24. We also did a side trip to Montreal (3-4 hour drive), the International Fireworks Competition was the highlight of our trip (Saturdays in late June and Sundays in July). We took the Metro to Papineau, the followed the crowd. The view was incredible! IP: Logged |

We were in both Quebec and Montreal during the holiday. We took the train from Quebec to Montreal on June 24. So we kind of missed most of the activities in both cities. They were just starting to close down St. Jean when we left.We were able to see the international fireworks show for Japan from our hotel room window. I imagine being there and hearing the music as well would have been spectacular. ------------------ Luanne IP: Logged |

Sorry about the confusion - replying at 7AM before my dose of caffeine was not a good idea...The 3rd week-end in May (May 22nd in 2006) is a holiday long week-end: Fête de Dollard (in honour of Dolllard des Ormeaux, leader of an ill-fated expedition against the Iroquois). June 24th is Quebec's national holiday, as others have mentioned. ------------------ Some mistakes are just too much fun to only make once... IP: Logged |
