My sister made a purchase at the Georgian Manor Resort, Collingwood back in Oct'03. They didn't buy a timeshare, but bought a 'Discovery Membership' which appears to be a 3 yr membership, during which time they may redeem 4 certificates (2 for cruises, 2 for resort vacations). The price they paid was easily enough to buy a timeshare on the resale market, so I'm hoping they'll be able to get some value from it. I'm trying to help her figure out how it works, and what they're actually entitled to, and at what cost. The Georgian Manor directed her to a website redeemavacation.com where she can access available vacations by using her certificate serial #'s and authorization codes. Does this sound familiar to anyone, and if so, how did this 'Discovery membership' work for you? ThankyouIP: Logged |

We went to a similar presentation at Georgian Manor last year. We attended many over the years and it was one of the worst. This discovery package was the last thing they offered us as we were fighting to get out the door. As I recall it is the equivanlent of 4 spacebanked weeks, but 2 have to used on cruises. The cruises were at RCI prices which are generally more than market even with the week deposit. We really liked the resort and would consider buying there someday.Your sister probably learned an expensive lesson about timesharing. (Many of us did, before we learned about TUG and resales). Thanks for the note. It does seem an expensive lesson. The cruise certificates have expired, and the 2 vacation resort certificates (weeks) can only be redeemed if an additional fee is paid. Yikes. I suppose if she can actually get a summer week then she may get some value from them, as the additional fee would probably be approx. 1 or 2 nights rental. If she can't get a summer week, she'll be paying the same fee for a low-season week, which I could have found her elsewhere, without the discovery membership. Like you said, an unfortunate lesson. Wish they'd talked to me first. IP: Logged | |
