We leave tomorrow for a three-night preview package at Newport Coast, followed by a week at the Four Seasons Aviara. This is our first time to California. Any must see/must do suggestions from fellow TUGers would be appreciated. Thanks! MarkIP: Logged |

Wow, what a great vacation... Sounds like you'll have fun. Are you traveling as adults or are you taking kids with you?Tina ------------------ You can see my timeshare photos here: http://community.webshots.com/user/ciscogizmo IP: Logged |

We will be leaving for Four Seasons again this Saturday, also without kids. We like eating breakfast at the Golf course. My wife thought her massage at the spa was great. Hotel del Coranado is great--lunch and strolling the grounds is a must. Flower fields will be in bloom. MarkIP: Logged |

I'd invite you to ring my room and we can have coffee by the pool and maybe you can give us more must see things to do in the area. What do you say? If interested email me so we can make connections. When your at Newport, you must spend some time on Balboa Island. It is 10 minutes away and great for walking and people watching. Then take the 1 minute ferry across the harbor to balboa peninsula and walk along an old style beach town. Drive up and down the coast from Huntington's beach to Dana Point. Lots to see and soak the atmosphere of the SoCal beach towns. If shopping is your thing, Fashion Island is 10 minutes from Marriott's Newport resort, a great mall with all the california stores. Enjoy our trip. ------------------ Bill IP: Logged |

Make sure to take Captain Dave's dolphin tour it is well worth it. Right down from Newport Coast Villas is shack that is famous for it's Date shakes. Have a cocktail at the Laguna Hotel and watch the sunset, and most all relax. SheldonIP: Logged |

If you and your wife like to hike, Crystal Cove State Park is right there next to Newport Coast. It is about 2000 acres with three coastal accesses, three miles of gorgeous beach & an underwater park. Here is a link for more info: http://www.crystalcovestatepark.com/ Jan

Just returned from Newport Coast. I would suggest Laguna Beach (much preferred it over Balboa). My husband and I had a wonderful lunch at Las Brisas, a high end Mexican restaurant that sits on a bluff as you come into Laguna - Spectacular location overlooking the ocean. I would highly recommend it. We also ate at the Beach House in Laguna, another great location. We brought kids to Balboa Island for the rides but if i just had a had a few days to spend with my spouse, would not spend it there. Seems like kind of a crowded tourist trap (imho). I second Shelon's recommendation of Captain Dave's Dolphin/Whale watching Tours. You are on a catamaran and much closer to the water than on the other commercial whale/dolphin tours. If you take this tour you will get wet, so dress appropiately. They leave out of the Dana Point Marina - Take the Coastal Highway (US 1) South from where you are in NewPort (this trip will also take you through Laguna Beach which as the previous poster said is lovely. Here's Captain Dave's website: http://www.dolphinsafari.com/ Captain Dave also made an award-winning Video on whales and dolphins - more info on his web site. Awesome! Thanks for all this great info....we are going on May 1 - any other oceanfront restaurants to try - we are arriving around 10 a.m. into San Diego so we thought we would have lunch first, then food shop and check into Four Seasons later on.------------------ Pat My Trips and Travel Website - Pictures and More... Hi Mark...we are currently at the Four Seasons and I have to tell you it is a step above any of the Marriott places we have stayed at. What did you trade to get in? We traded our Custom House week. The 2 beroom suites here are about 1600 sq ft with 3 bathrooms...very spacious and very nicely appointed with fireplace (gas) and full kitchen. The golf course is beautiful (but hard). There are a lot of great restaurants from Carlsbad to Del Mar (Jake's in Del Mar is very good). We did a hot air ballon ride (concierge can arrange) which was more than we expected. A visit to the San Diego Wild Animal Park is a great experience. Also a day trip to the boutique winerys in Tecumale is a nice side trip. Have a great time, and look at the reviews of the Four Seasons...very high marks.
