We're hoping to trade our 2 bedroom Ocean Pointe for a 2 bedroom Maui Ocean Club for the summer of 2007. We will be depositing our week with II this summer even though we know Marriotts are deposited 1 year out (want to get to the top of the list).

My question is are 2 bedrooms being built with the new construction? If so, when might they be available as trades?

This will be my son's graduation from high school present.

Thanks for your replies.

Hopefully you are depositing a prime season week at OP. You will need extremely strong trade power to pull a two bedroom in Maui because there will likely be few of these deposited.

You will likely have to wait until at least a year before to see units be deposited. As far as being at the top of the list, that only affects another request with the same trade power as you.

If someone has a deposit with more trade power than you but deposits after you, they still go ahead of you in the line for that particular request. This is assuming they are both Marriotts.

I think you would be better off renting you OP and then renting a Maui week.

Just fyi for your consideration -- we have a 2 bedroom in Maui. Part of our paperwork is a contract add on that states we will receive an accommodation certificate for our unit if we deposit it with II for at least the next 5 years. In order to get the AC, we will need to deposit our entire unit. Our sales person advised us to forget the AC -- to divide our 2 bedroom and deposit the 1 bedroom and the lockoff and then we'd have the power of the Maui trade with both deposits. Don't know if other owners of 2 bedrooms are being advised to do it that way, but if so, there will be even fewer 2 bedrooms.

Indigo,
I don't specifically recall being 'advised' to do what you describe, however, we always do the 2 br. lockout to have 2 weeks in Hawaii. And yes, that does cut-down on available exchanges into a 2 br. as there aren't all that many available.
Maybe the new towers will be open by summer 2007, but so far, no ground breaking.

That's the other thng he told me. I asked him about the new towers because I said we may be interested in purchasing one of those units when they become available. He said the new towers weren't a "given" and still weren't definite. No time frame as to when as of this Wednesday.

If I add other resorts to my request will I still have the Marriott 21 or 24 day advantage at Ocean Club? Thanks.

Anne,
Why don't you add Waiohai (Kauai) & Ko'Olina (Oahu) to your request list. All of the Waiohai units are two bedrooms. These are both Marriotts & you will still have your Marriott preference & the lower exchange fee. Both are gorgeous resorts.

Jan, we are going to do a week in Ko'Olina also (if possible). We don't mind renting 1 week and trading for the other. I guess we'll put in a request for both and which ever shows first we'll rent the other.

Thanks for the replies.

FYI
I had a search going for over 13 months - i have a 2BR gold OP. i was looking for 2BR and didn't get a hit - even with the other hawaii resorts too. I changed my search to accept a 1br and locked in Maui... so i agree that if i had a platinum week, it might have been different. another thought - accept the one bedroom and use points for another br.

Thanks Tony, that's very helpful. We can use a 1 bedroom if we must. Do you think it would make any difference if we requested 2 years out and tried all the good resorts on Maui? Can I ask when you traveled?

i'm traveling next week.
requesting 2 years out only gets you to the "top of the list" of those owners with the same trading power and requesting the same room type. owners can't start depositing for another year. and as i understand, few owners deposit a full 2br, they'll lock off and deposit the studio and keep the 1br or deposit both.

anne, don't give up so easily. You've got time on your side, and you're trading a good resort. You mentioned you'll be depositing your week this summer--is it gold or platinum? Which week will you be depositing specifically? That may make a big difference.

Yes, 2 bedrooms in Maui are extremely rare and hard to exchange into. But not impossible. We've exchanged 2 years in a row (both times for February) into a 2 bedroom in Maui Ocean Club using BeachPlace Towers New Years and President's week (respectively) for trade. The first year we requested 15 months in advance (and got it right at the 12 month-out mark); the 2nd time we requested 12 months in advance and got it after a 2.5 month wait).

Thanks David. We own gold and will hopefully be depositing 4th of July week 2006. I think I'll request 2 bedrooms and if it doesn't come through 8 months or so out, I accept a 1 bedroom. Wish me luck!
