I am currently not a Worldmark owner but considering it. My wife indicated that she would like to go to Steamboat Springs next year during Presidents week. I have 4 kids so I would need a two bedroom. My question is If I were to start the process of purchasing WM points today what are my chances of being able to reserve a unit for next year? I am assuming it will take about two weeks for the sale to be complete. I would be willing to go through RCI or II if necessary. Is it too late to reserve a unit in the WM at Steamboat? Thanks. Why don't you have the current owner you are buying from make the reservation for you now. Reservations can be made 13 months in advance and we are exactly 12 months from President's week now, so there wasn't a big rush to reserve those units at the maximum 13 month window. I just checked and there are 5+ units available for President's week next year. Also, the waitlist works pretty good if there aren't any weeks available when you can make the reservation yourself.IP: Logged |

are you sure, BeaverTed?That sounded fairly odd that PresDay 2006 would still be available at 12months out. You can still get a 1br/sleeps 4....but not the 2br or the 3br. IP: Logged |

You're right all that is available is 1 bedrooms. Next question. How reliable is the wait list? What do you think my chances are 10% 20% 30%... Thanks.IP: Logged |

all I've ever heard WM agents say is that "about 30% of WM reservations end up getting cancelled; owners change their minds"....so I'd guess you have (on average) 30% chance of picking up a week or your choice. What I've wondered is, is that percentage any different for prime holiday weeks. I.e. do folks booking Christmas 13 months out tend to keep those reservations more than 70% average? Hat IP: Logged |

I would just book 2 1-br units for now and then get on the waitlist for a 2-br.IP: Logged |

Currently, Worldmark owns 34 units at the Steamboat resort. 20 1 bedrooms, 1 3 bedroom and 13 2 bedrooms. You can get on the wait list(thru Worldmark) and at the same time consider an exchange thru RCI or II. You do not need to put up any credits while you are on the wait list (unless they call you with an availability). You can also do a search for an exchange without first making a deposit. Worldmark has wonderful trading power, Plus, an exchange uses fewer Worldmark credits. IP: Logged |

Great idea BBummer, but you're talking about 16k credits instead of 10k! IP: Logged |

How so? YOu'd be charged 10k WM Credits for exchanging for a 2br/red in CO. You'd actually be charged 9k WM Credits for exchagning 1br/red in RCI/II (when you can reserve your own WM 1br for 8k....actually a disadvantage to WM owners). The only time it's fewer credits....inside 45/59 days the last minute deals are 4k credits (don't expect to get prime ski weeks on this inventory). Or conceivably, some of our 11k/12k locations (ie.mexico/hawaii/las vegas)...you could get for a 10k exchange plus $149 fee versus 11/12k. Hat IP: Logged |

Well....maybe it was an IRIS glitch because there were 5+ units when I checked. You're right, they're not there now.

HatRack, You are about the most analytical person I know... I am surprised at your comment. The math does not work that way So few people really use the waitlist... that an extremely high percentage of waitlist requests are granted. My ratio is near 100%. Right now the waitlist seems to be broken... but when the WM waitlist system was working right (pre-IRIS)... then it was a very powererful tool. I suspect that the waitlist will be back to its good old self before too long.' /Jim

That's the cost of buying too late to get what you want. And, if the wait list hits, then there is no additional cost. Morover, the OP can get airline tickets and sleep easy that their vacation is secure. And, if they really want to go crazy, they can do even better. But, you're the expert in that area. IP: Logged |

WM is in the process of getting a new computer system called IRIS. There have been a lot of bugs during the rollout and one the things that stopped working successfully is the WM waitlist. In the past the waitlist was flawless. If you put your name on a waitlist, and a match became available, then the unit would not be put back into general inventory, and would be held for you.Post IRIS, people have been finding matches on the website that are exact matches for their waitlist requests, without ever getting notified. Like I said... I expect this will be fixed over time, because clearly (from past behavior), they know how to implement a great waitlist system. /Jim

Hi. Everyone's telling you to get onto the waitlist and book this and that. You can't, of course, because you're not an owner. Do you have a seller already who is willing to make such a reservation or waitlist request? That's what I'd try for if I were you.------------------ Julie, in Portland, Ore. IP: Logged |
