The following statements are from - a RCI Letter Of Intent that
we received at a Greensprings Plantation Owners Presentation

I hereby acknowledge that a member of the Public
Relations Department has fully explained that Club
Sunterra has ended its affiliation with RCI, and the effect
this will have on my ability to exchange in the future.

I further acknowledge that as per the Developer
Agreement, Sunterra has made available to me their
Exclusive Points Based Exchange System and Trust
Based Ownership.

Club Sunterra Members are entitled to:

A discounted exchange fee of $99 for each fixed week
Exchange through Club Select
Free exchanges in Club Sunterra Resorts
Search first exchanges through Interval International

We were Invited to and Attended our First:
Greensprings Plantation Owners Presentation

We went because we did not know much about
Greensprings and/or our new T/S ownership

We recently purchased - a Lock Out
Fixed Units - Fixed Weeks - Resale

We were told by "Susan our Representive" who is a member
of the Public Relations Department and not a Salesperson
Her office is located in the lower level of the building

That as a deeded Greenspring Plantation Owner

We too would no longer be able
to deposit/exchange with RCI

Leaving us no opportunity to exchange
unless we joined Club Sunterra

After our 2 1/2 hour meeting with Susan
We called RCI and the Vacation Guide said
RCI would accept our 2006 week for deposit

Here is what we were offered:

They would take our week and add it on
with additional costs - deeded (trust)

and/or if we came back at another time

They would take our week and add it on
with additional costs - Right to Use (RTU)

We declined the opportunity to Join
Club Sunterra and waive all the benefits
of the Developers Offer

Especially since some of what Susan said
did not sound correct..

Checked out our recorded deed at
the James City County Court House
while we were in Williamsburg VA
Yes, we are in the book (computer)

Sunterra's relationship with RCI has never made sense to me. Why would a Sunterra owner pay to join their points system when they can get into RCI's for less and have more resorts to chose from?
I would not be surprised to see this continue as Sunterra does whatever it can to 'encourage' owners to join the club.

Individual Sunterra resorts have affiliations with RCI, so that Club Sunterra would have to compete with RCI's point system to get owners to join.
I know as an owner at Flamingo Beach, Club Sunterra is in direct competition with RCI for points-type memberships. I would not be surprised to see them cancel their afffiliation with RCI, especially considering their recent association with II.

Kevin - Club Sunterra was affilated with RCI until a few years ago when they switched to II.

If a resort is affiliated with RCI/II then "deaffiliates" the owners can still maintain their membership and deposit rights with the "deaffiliated" system. But new owners, if any, would not be automatically placed into RCI/II once the affiliation ended.

As an example Westgate changed primary affiliation from RCI to II many years ago. But owners at Westgate Villas who purchased when RCI was the primary exchange company can choose if they want to deposit with RCI or II (assuming they have accounts with both). But new Westgate resorts that were sold with only II can't be in RCI weeks but now can be in the RCI Points for deposit system. All exchange companies want deposits so they do all they can to make it possible for as many owners as they can to deposit their time.

A nitpicking point of clarifications.

Resort affilliation and developer affiliation are separate and distinct. Sunterra terminated is developer affiliation with RCI more than one year ago. The Sunterra resorts, to the best of my knowledge retained their RCI affiliation and added II affiliation (if they weren't already dual affiliated).

As long as the resorts maintain their RCI affiliation, owners at the resorts should not be affected as long as they are depositing their weeks directly with the exchange company and not going through Club Sunterra.

Since Club Sunterra membership automatically includes exchange company membership, the Club Sunterra deaffiliation with RCI means that Club Sunterra members will no longer be able to make RCI exchanges through the Club. (But if they can deposit their weeks directly without going through the Club, they should be able to continue to do do.)

Sunterra Corporation's Grand Vacation Club
renamed as Club Sunterra in 2003

Is it true that you can not convert your
Deeded Week into Club Sunterra without
purchasing a min. # of points package?

What is the min. number of points needed
to convert units at Greensprings and Powhatan

What is the difference between:
Club Sunterra and Club Sunterra Vacations II

How many different Club Sunterra programs do they have?

I would be interested in seeing the "List" of Units
Available on the Internet that is posted on Friday`s

Does anyone have the Sunterra figures for
The number of weeks owners
The number of Club owners
At Greensprings and Powhatan Plantation

Steve, the last time I checked, which was some time ago, Powhatan was still maintaining affiliation only with RCI. Did that change?

Pat,
Both Sunterra Williamsburg resorts are dual affiliated. If you're a 'weeks' owner at either resort, you MUST use RCI. If you're a Club Sunterra 'points' owner/member, you can use 'The Club' for other Sunterra resort exchanges, or use II for all exchanges, but not RCI. You also have the option as a 'Club' member of using 'ClubSelect',( for an additional fee), which enables you to deposit your "desirable" non Sunterra weeks into Club Sunterra to be converted to SunOptions/points, that are deposited into your Club Sunterra account. These can be either II or RCI affiliates, as long as they're good weeks. Kevin J.

Thanks for the reply; I'm a lowly weeks owner--wish I weren't, but they've never even approached me about converting, and from what I read, it costs a lot.
