I read the wm user guide. It states that if you book less than a week (red high), you can only booked 60 days or less in advance. How can you get around this if you want to go to certain resort on short trips. If I waited till 60 days, it is most likely, nothing will be available for the weekend. Can I book a week within 61 days and 13 months and cancel some of the days as the week can closer to 60 days.

You can not remove days from a reservation. You may add more, though, I believe? If you cancel your week less than 60 days out, you can not immediately re-book just the days you want, either. There is a 48-hour waiting period imposed. The same is true if canceling within 14 days and trying to re-book as bonus time as well as canceling within 5 days and trying to re-book as guest bonus time.

One way is to keep checking and find standalone days. You may book "OSA" (Only Space Available) over 60 days out. So, if you find a 2BR unit with only a couple days in a row left (no availability before or after), you can book just those days. Another positive note, if a 2BR Twin has only 2 days available, but a 2BR Queen has a full week available, you can still book just the space available in the 2BR Twin. OSA reservations are great - just keep an eye out constantly on the online availability site.

You can break up your "week" by booking some days at another resort before/after the days you want. This can also be in a different size unit. So, you could book 3 days in a Studio at Resort A, 2 days in a 2BR at Resort B and then 2 days in a Studio at Resort C. That would be 7 days in a row, satisfying the requirement. However, you'd be charged the credit values for all 7 days at the unit rate applicable to each Resort PLUS you'd have to pay 3 housekeeping charges (or 2 if you have a free annual HK left to use). Some people do this and give the extra days to friends/family or just treat them as "throwaway" days.

Myip,

During Red Season as Rich stated, you can only book 7 days, but at 59 days out you can go on a wait list and have a fairly high chance of getting in for the weekend only. Now, if you wait till 3 weeks before to put yourself on the wait list - you are not likely to get it. The wait list in the past has worked well, but with the new change over to IRIS booking, the wait list has not worked so well. We are all hoping they will get the bugs worked out and get back to a more reliable booking process. The other way to get a weekend, is during White and Blue season you can book a weekend alone 13 months out since you do not have the 7 day rule during White and blue season.

The only thing I might add to what others have said is that you can make some changes to your reservation as long as you continue to have the 7 consecutive days. A couple of examples - one Thanksgiving I wanted to go to St. George and Vegas. I booked a 1 bedroom in St. George and a 1 bedroom in Vegas (only thing available). I wanted a 2 bedroom so I got on the wait list. About 3 weeks later I got called for the 2 bedroom, so changed size of unit, but not dates.

Another example - I had a studio booked at Windsor for the 5 days before Memorial Weekend (originally a throw-away reservation) and a 2 bedroom at Marina Dunes for the weekend (what I really wanted - my niece's graduation). The Windsor dates weren't going to work out, so I called and changed them to the 5 days after Memorial Day (and changed to a 1 bedroom - my sister is going to use it) without losing the Marina Dunes reservation. It did cost me more points for the 1 bedroom and the housekeeping fee went up, but it is worth it.

If I had cancelled the Windsor part completely, I would have also lost the Marina Dunes reservation. I'm sure that the wait list for this resort for Memorial Day weekend is huge!

The other thing you can try if you are being really flexible is to call 48 hours ahead of time. The wait list is cancelled and it is just luck if you get something. If you call right after someone cancels, you get the reservation (so call often). I did that once at Marina Dunes for Labor Day weekend once (and was very surprised to get it on my first phone call!).
