Hello Craig,

This is a question not about a definition of the subject above, but something as clear as mud to me which I've wasted a lot of time asking questions in circles about with II member and II exchange departments, in addition to the manager of the resort where I'm asking this question about...
There must be something simple that I'm just not comprehending on the issue of privacy/capacity and what a unit "trades as". (In quotes because of what the most recent II membership rep who I spoke to had said)...
I completely understand how a unit is rated for occupancy and capacity. That I'm all set on. When I look in my account online, my units have always been able to trade as the same number as the max capacity. (Therefore a 2-bed sleeping a 6 max would trade for 6, and a 1bed sleeping 4 max would trade for 4. When I recently added a studio with privacy for 2 sleeping 4 max, I noticed that online it showed that the unit could trade for 2 max. Since I positively have seen the unit in question does sleep 4 max, I phoned II several times and the responses eventually filtered down to it being necessary for m,e to have the resort in question to contact the II account rep to update/correct the profile on the units. Having done that in early January, I expected to see something online that shows a studio (privacy 2) which trades for 4 max by now. Not seeing this, I phoned II membership again and was told that while I cannot see the max sleeping capacity online....(according to your records)the unit number shows in your system as sleeping 4 max. "But...", one of your reps said, "...it trades as 2".
Why would a studio with max occupancy 4 trade as 2? Do studios trade for their privacy rating while 1 and 2-br units trade for their max occupancy? There's something in here that doesn't seem consistent enough for me to make sense.
Please explain this, because no one else has been able to help me get what should be a really simple issue.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian:

We have discussed this issue at great length. In short, you may request to travel with the number of people your unit will accommodate privately. The private sleeping capacity is calculated using two people per sleeping area that has access to a bathroom without passing through another sleeping area.

Please review the archives for further information.

Thank you. Your reply was informative and to the point. Why nobody else I've asked this to could state that I'll never know.
And I'm sorry I didn't know it was a f.a.q.
