Craig,

First of all thank you for your invaluable information on these boards.

Here is my question/concern.

I own a cape cod resort that is classified with II sleeping 2 when actuality it sleeps for with the pull out sofa. The reasoning was that the bathroom is in the bedroom. OK, I can understand that but when I look at the Marriott Ocean Pointe which I just came back from and the Marriot Beach Place Towers, the efficiencies sleep 4. How can that be?? You have to step over the bed from the sofa (yes I am exaggerating a little) and is much more less private than my 1 bedroom. I am using those 2 resorts as I am sure there are many more. There is much less privacy than a 1 bedroom. The reason I am asking this is I am contemplating going with II totally when my RCI membership expires and have noticed an increase in value with II since the refurbishment of the units/property. My other myrtle beach resort is primarily the same layout and is considered a sleep 4.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

This is a great question because people frequently misunderstand the occupancy issue.

The Marriott unit in question trades out with two people maximum. The confusion you reference is because availability displays reflect the maximum non private capacity. Weeks listed on your "my units page" reflect the trade out capacity.

The listings are different because on the availability side, you are able to view the unit details and make a decision whether you're willing to accept any particular configuration. If we were processing an ongoing vacation request, we wouldn't confirm you into anything non private unless you specified it was acceptable in advance.

In either case, you may be eligible for larger units based on our comparable exchange methodology. If so, you are able to travel with as many as the unit accommodates non privately. In this situation, the system won't allow you to list a larger traveling party but it isn't a problem.

Please let me know if I failed to answer your question completely.

You are good. Thanks so much for the quick response. If I can just clarify it in my mind, I would just like to rephrase this so I know I am correct. If a owner of a studio deposits a week that is a 4/2, he/she shows as a search efficiency sleeps 2 but if I was to look at it in a search it would show sleeps 4. Am I correct in this. I didnt use the words Marriott as I know they have their own way of doing things. Thanks again for your quick response. The reason I ask is when I do a search sometimes I see a 1 br sleeps two but when I go to the resort page it says 4/2 for a 1 br unit.

You are correct.

I can undertstand how you might be confused if what you've described in your last sentence occurs. It sounds like an error; do you have an example I can look into?

Craig:

Here is the example that I found. The resort directory says both an efficiency and 1 br are a 4/2.

Traders Inn Beach Club • TDI
Ormond Beach, FL, USA 1 bedroom, Sleeps 2
Full kitchen Saturday, November 01 2003/
Saturday, November 08 2003

Americano Beach Lodge Resort • AMO
Daytona Beach, FL, USA Efficiency, Sleeps 2
Full kitchen Saturday, November 01 2003/
Saturday, November 08 2003

Thank you for explaining this to me.
Just wanted to give you 2 different resorts.

Mel
