My old Palm IIIC is about to die and I need to purchase a new one. I've been torn between a Tungsten T5 and a Tungsten C. I had just about decided on the T5 (currently with rebates it's $50 cheaper with about same functionality. Today Palm announced their new LifeDrive.Does anybody have a T5 or C and how do you like them? Anybody know anything about the LifeDrive. It is about $150 more than T5. Thanks, Nancy IP: Logged |

The LifeDrive looks GREAT. Palm is an extremely efficient OS (ie uses little battery power and memory) and with the 4GB HD, expansion slot and WiFi you have nearly unlimited storage and access. Even works as a USB drive for your PC. The only real choices in handhelds are the Palm series especially Treo & LifeDrive and the Blackberry. I've always preferred the Palm and this one is the best yet. Now I have to decide how important the phone part is- Verizon just got the 650 model on line - do I go Treo or Lifedrive? Decisions decisions. ------------------ John Chase Use Email Icon above for contact address IP: Logged |

I own a treo 650. Although I wish the screen on the 650 was as large as the one on the lifedrive, I still would choose the 650 over the Lifedrive. That's mainly because I don't want to carry two devices. The treo is a swiss army knife. Not the best at everything, but it's good to great on many things. If you already have a phone, and don't mind carrying two devices, I would recommend the lifedrive. why is Palm's stock such a disaster on the stock market compared to RIMM (Blackberry)? Everyone seems to have a Palm of some sort (including me) and their new products look good, but the stock is going nowhere. I bought Palm stock years ago and if fell into the toilet, but had I bought RIMM instead I'd be a rich man. Brian ------------------ Those who dream most, do most. IP: Logged |

I think I got some insight into this when, like the OP, I begin to consider replacing my older Palm (actually a Sony Clie). I went to Staples just to see what they had on hand. Almost nothing. That compares with two to three years ago when they had a huge display of alternatives. People who use Palms (or, their Microsoft based equivalent) have them. Low end replacements don't make the companies much money and don't lure people into thinking that their current model has become a case of instant obsolecence. So, the companies have loaded the high ends with devices that most people don't have that much use for (camera functions, for example) so they can justify the higher prices. At those prices you can get a laptop. Yes, I know that a laptop cannot replace some of the functions of a Palm. I won't carry a laptop into Home Depot, for example, so that I have my list of replacement part numbers. That is why I would like to replace my Clie with another Palm type device. Still, I don't want to pay $400 when all I need is low end functions. As mentioned, low end devices don't make much money. Sony found this out, and, regretably (in my opinion) fled the market. (They no longer sell Clies.) Blackberry is doing well because of their wireless technology which spans Palm devices, mobile phones, and laptops. Very much JMHO. (Actually, not so much an opinion as my guess at was has happened given what I see.) ------------------ Owner since 1996 (a paltry one) TUG member since 1997 IP: Logged |

Let me start by saying I am a Palm user and have been since the 1st Palm Pilot. I got the treo 650 as soon as it was available from Cingular. It was a very easy and smooth upgrade I use it for everything. the phone is probably my least favorite, but I really like the convenience of 1 gadget. I use all the time to email.I think Rimm is doing better on the market than Palm because they smartly chose to target corporations instead of individuals. Most Blackberry's are company owned and given to employees. They probably get large, renewable contracts. Palm could only do that once they had the Treo software perfected. I would recommend the Treo if it is compatable with your cellular phone service Susan IP: Logged |

Thanks all for your insight. A Treo is not an option for me. I'm still leaning toward the T5. I'm not sure the LifeDrive is worth the extra money for me. Any other thoughts from anyone.TIA, Nancy IP: Logged |
