We've only had our cordless phone about a year, but all of a sudden it only holds a charge for about 15 minutes. (When you look at the handset, though, it still shows three bars intially, but moves down to one bar very quickly.)Will a new battery help, or do I have to trash the whole phone? Anyone know? Thanks! The batteries don't last very long - I replace the one in my work phone about every year. You might also want to read the instructions, if you still have them. Some models say NOT to leave it on the charger all the time.------------------ Denise [This message has been edited by dbmMayer (edited 05-30-2005).] IP: Logged |

It's the battery. Take the old battery to WalMart and you can match it with a replacement.-David

If you can find a new battery that's compatible with your phone and is NiMH (Nickel Metal-Hydride) or, unlikely for a cordless phone, Li-Ion (Lithium Ion), buy that. While the capacity may not be any better, they won't have the "memory" problems that a NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) battery does after time where it won't fully charge.------------------ A WorldMark Owners' Community - - www.wmowners.com IP: Logged |

Probably. We have a two story house and have two cordless phones and others. One cordless upstairs and one downstairs. Ran into a similar problem and replaced a battery, but it seems one charger is not as effective as the other, currently we are switching phones between the two. Seems to be effective so far, now going on 4 mths. If you are not in a similar situstion then the next step is as you said and get a replacement battery. ------------------ Mark B. IP: Logged |

I have noticed the phone gets hot in the charger, which is bad for a battery, so while you may need a new battery, remember after a night in the charger, to take it out and let it run down. Hopefully, that way it will last longer............Pete ------------------ One of My Web Sites. IP: Logged |

When my first cordless phone's battery died, I spent $17 and purchased a new battery. After that lived a decent life and then died, I went to Best Buy and puchased a phone for $15 with a $7 rebate to mail in. Now, I just buy a new phone. Perhaps battery prices haved dropped since then, but I can usually find a really cheap basic cordless phone somewhere. IP: Logged |

I have to agree with you. Yes it terrible that our society has gotten so "throw away" but it is often cheaper to buy a new phone than the replacement battery for the old phone. Same is true for ink-jet printers. It is sometimes cheaper to buy a whole new printer than buy the expensive replacement ink for the printer. ------------------ Bill IP: Logged |
