Good question. The explanation at the link states that part of the survey will be used in the statistics class. What about the rest of the survey? And who are the people behind the survey? It's apparently more than one individual, since the text refers to "a token of our appreciation". Is it a business? Did that same business author the free guide? IP: Logged |

I looked at the survey and this person wants a lot of information, I quit. Not sure I want to provide this kind of data to someone that is new to TUG.IP: Logged |

I had the same reaction. If this had been a long time TUG member, I would have gone there without hesitation. Since it was someone new to the site, I didn't even click the link. Who knows what they would really do with whatever info we provided.Sheila IP: Logged |

Plus, if this person is really studying statistics, proper use of the term "sample" would be appreciated. The sample is the batch of individuals selected for measurement and study (and that group is a portion of the study *population*). I assume the objective here is for 200 *subjects* or observations, not 200 samples. If this is legit, at least the student will now use the right terminology. I won't even go into sampling strategy, but taking a number of observations off a web request, where the same person could conceivably participate twice (on person or by accident) isn't usually a good idea. It's an intro stats class so my apologies for not using the correct terminology.Everyone: I am 28 years old. I am interested in timeshares because my husband and I bought one on our honeymoon in 2003 and upon returning home realized that we had paid way too much for it. I found one just like mine (same month) selling for thousands of dollars less on ebay. I looked into a refund, selling it and renting it all to no avail, but in doing so I learned quite a bit. I want to share what I learned with others and eventually write a book on the subject. Hopefully, I can help others to not make the same mistakes I did. Currenly, I am a student at Harvard University Extension School. (I also live in Massachusetts with my husband and cocker spaniel.) We have to do a final project on a topic of our choice where we must collect data and analyze it using the statistical methods we are learning in class. I decided to conduct a survey on timeshares and give a away a little e-book to those who partcipate. The e-book contains the first 10 things I learned about timeshares as a new buyer and some of the research I've done thus far. I'm actually surprised that people find taking a survey so risky. I take them all the time through several survey clubs I belong to. I never know "the company" who gives it. I've been a programmer for years so maybe I am more trusting because of it. I know that the surveyor can not get any information on me through a survey (besides my IP address and most web sites these days record this through cookies anyway) besides what I give out. Let me know if you need more info on me! BTW - the survey does not ask for your name so if you decide to take it, rest assured that I will only know you as #172. Warm regards, Kiku ------------------ ______________________ Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people. IP: Logged |

If correct spelling or grammar was used as a yardstick for who is or is not acceptable on this board I suspect the membership numbers would be in single figures. I have also completed your survey and haven't had my bank account raided or my identity stolen as far as I am aware ------------------ Regards Keith IP: Logged |

Thanks guys for participating! You've been a big help.I'm looking at the results of the survey so far. It looks like I am not the only bad speller out there. Thank goodness most of you are forgiving. BTW - I once got a D on a spelling test in middle school. It has honestly never been very important to me. That's what spell check is for! Unfortunatlely, the program I used for the survey does not make spell check easy. ------------------ ______________________ Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people.
