I've been trying to book flights from Phl to Phx to San in October on Orbitz. It brings up a list of fares to choose from. When I select a fare I get the same menu and a message in red at the top 'We're sorry, the fare for that itinerary is no longer available. The fare for that trip is now $403. See below.' It was $255 when I selected it and it's still $255 after the message appears. I can't even decide I want to pay $403, there is no option to do that. This has been happening to me for a week.I can't wait until Southwest extends it's schedule! IP: Logged |

Try www.sidestep.com for good fares.I have used Orbitz once and would tend to avoid them. They required paper tickets on a route that I knew the airline allowed e-tickets, which required extra fees. IP: Logged |

I was having the same problem with Orbitz on a different route a few weeks ago. It also persisted over a week. I contacted customer service, which of course denied that there was a problem. They did rectify the problem a few days after I contacted them. IP: Logged |

Since Orbitz and ITA use the same engine, I target time/routing/fare bucket specifics on ITA, enter those parameters into Orbitz, analyze seating and then book with the airlines. Only rarely, when multiple airlines are involved, do I have to go with Orbitz or one of its equivilents for a pure online transaction, when the intinerary requires non-partner/alliance flights. Most of the mileage runners seem to have better luck on Travelocity and Expedia than Orbitz, but I don't have enough experience to comment with authority. I've seen the error messages recounted by the OP, but they have generally come up when I've been pursuing mistake fares, trying to get them to book. Personally, I've always been able to fare intineraries on one airline/partner on the airline site at the same rate as found on the TA sites. Pat IP: Logged |

Consider yourself lucky! I booked 6 tickets to Fl. on Travelocity. They sent me a confirmation with the information that my ticket numbers would be sent to me when they were issued. 6 days later I contacted the airline for those numbers and they had NO record of the reservation. To make a long story short, after several phone calls to Travelocity (speaking to people in Pune, India), they told me that when they tried to book those tickets, there were no seats available at that fare. Why was I never informed of this? I was told to book directly with the airline. In the interim, the cost of the tickets had gone up by $80 each!

My understanding is that there are certain times of day when new fares are being loaded into the computer system. Occasionally an amazing fare will pop up but when you try to buy it gives the message that this is not available. Once the system is updated, the unusual fares go away and you can book normally. I had this experience a couple of times and that was the explanation I received when I reached Orbitz. BTW, I have had many excellent experiences with Orbitz and use the site often.IP: Logged |
