There are collectivos or shuttles or busses--whatever you want to call them. Just exit the airport and they will be waiting out front. There will be a man standing near them and he will take U.S. dollars. You should have lots of five and ones with you anyway for small puchases and tips. The cost is appx $7. USD per person. They'll put your luggage in the back luggage area. Just tell them which hotel you are staying at. It is absolutely no hassle. Avoid talking to the sales people at the timeshare sales gauntlet between the airport front door and the sidewalk/parking area where the busses are located. The drive from the airport to the city is not very scenic--poverty is very evident. The drive takes appx. 45 minutes or so. After you settle in, you might want to take a pulmonia (open air taxi) to Gigante, a large grocery store near the large mall. Just tell the driver "Gigante" and establish the price. The pulmonia will cost appx. $5. USD each way. Again, no hassle. Before you leave, go to www.maztravel.com and print the bus map on long paper and in color. It is invaluable. Make a point of going to old town while you are there, especially the Plaza Machado and the open market. They are redoing the malecon (sidewalk along the sea wall) and it is very attractive. I hope you are not doing the all-inclusive at Royal Villas because restaurants are good and affordable in Mazatlan. Have a great time! Mazatlan is one of my favorite vacation destinations. BTW, taxis/pulmonias are the only way back to the airport. Expect to pay between $20 and $25 for the cab (NOT per person).IP: Logged |

capecoddah2: We are also going to be first time visitors to Mazatlan in Feb./06, and will be staying at the Royal Villas as well. We do not have a lot of info on the Royal Villas, and would really like if you would do a review of the resort when you return. Thanks, and have a wonderful vacation. IP: Logged | |
