I am trying to reserve a reasonably priced accommodation at or near Washington DC for this summer. Noticed at Skyauction.com that they have the Candlewood Suites studio suite for auction on a regular basis. Checked their website which was a link from skyauction and they have a hotel near Washington.

Before bidding on this certificate, I decided to call the Candlewood Suites hotel in Washington to make sure that they would accept the winning bidder's certificate. The manager did not know about Skyauction, and stated that he would not accept a certificate from them.

There were other threads on TUG about Skyauction and everyone seemed to have no problems with them. I always thought that I would use them if I ever needed a vacation outside of my current timeshare availability. Don't know what to think now?

Isn't there a way to correspond with Skyauction? Tell them what you lerned. Maybe they need to talk to the person you did, or that person's boss.

SkyAuction is owned by RCI. The resorts/hotels will have a reservation from RCI. This might expain why they don't take SkyAuction reservations.

Lee, I don't know if I want to go to the trouble of contacting Skyauction. Since I did not bid I did not choose to follow up with Skyauction. I certainly would have done so if I was stuck with the certificate that Candlewood would not honour.

My intent was to let everyone know that not all resort may accept the certificates. Best to check first before committing. Maybe it's like the Entertainment book. The majority are good but once in a while someone will not accept them.

Cindy,
I've used Skyauction a few times and never had a problem with either them or the vendors accepting certificates. I used them for a 3 night cruise, hotels in San Francisco (two different occasions, once for more than one room). Everything was great.

I also had an instance that I was the winning bidder and they could't book the dates I needed, and they never charged me, so I feel pretty good about using them.

I decided to go directly to Skyauction with my concern. I am waiting for a response from them. It may be that they honour it but it does not say Skyauction on the certificate so the manager did not recognize it.

Thanks for your interest and I will keep you posted if I hear from Skyauction.

Although I have never used them, my sister uses them regularly, and has always been pleased with the results.

The certificates come from RCI and look no different then the exchange ones so if the resort stops accepting RCI exchanges then you have a problem. I have used them with no problem for cruises and have friends who have used them for RCI resorts.

SkyAuction belongs to an airline consolidator, not RCI. RCI has a contractual relationship with them, through which they rent out timeshare spacebank deposits to the general public. Even through we may take a special interest in their sale of timeshare weeks, most of what SkyAuction sells is plane tickets.
