Hello all,

This question is primarily for owners via the HGVC. I went to a presentation early this week on the HGVC properties and was generally impressed.

One of the big plusses seemed to be the 'exchange rate' for using an RCI property. My question is whether anyone has encountered difficulties or other 'changes' when booking an RCI visit. It appears that the exchange rate table is pretty clear cut, and I wanted to make sure that peoples experiences match that chart (and they are not getting charged extra points based on anything not published in that simple conversion chart).

Any real-world feedback from HGVC members would be GREATLY appreciated.

Regards!

Welcome to TUG...

Hopefully you will get some good advice here and decide that a TUG membership is very much worthwhile As a HGVC owner I have found this site benefitial, fun and infomative.

If I understand your question, you want to know about HGVC trades within RCI...To the best of my knowledge and experience and from what I have learned and read here HGVC trades within RCI are very easy and "pull" excellent RCI trades. HGVC is perhaps the highest pulling system (no disrespect to FF & WM owners intended ) within RCI and trades are easy except we have to call HGVC directly and cannot search RCI for trades like many here on TUG can do.

I also recommend that you take your time and buy HGVC RESALE...even though it is a great system, there is no need to pay full retail price. We have some good HGVC resale reps here on TUG that can help you. You also want to consider a minimum purchase of 5000 points (Gold) for the best options.

Hope that helps and hope you enjoy your research into the HGVC system and hopefully if you decide that timesharing is a value to you that you will join us here!

Rick

Thanks Rick!

I was basically asking if the 'published' conversion rates from HGVC-->RCI were consistent and as simple as it was presented to me.

I will explore the resale options here. I am looking for a 7000 based timeshare.

The published table is the same always. So no extra costs except for the RCI reservation transaction fee.

However one bad thing you will discover about the fixed point schedule is YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. There are no free upgrades in the HGVC system. Where as if you traded through RCI via another resort, free upgrades are possible based on season/demand etc.

Exchange with RCI is great. You get similar benefits to the RCI Points program where you can use your points for shorter or longer stays. HGVC enjoys very good trading power.

HGVC enjoys an excellent relationship with RCI. The trading power they have is as good as you will find with any resort. We've been owners for over five years and have successfully done 20 plus trades. We've been able to confirm virtually anything we asked for.. But no system is perfect.. I still can't get a 3BR St James Club over New Years!

You have to be realistic (but don't be afraid to set your sights high) and plan early.. We put our requests in at least 18 months out. You will not be dissappointed.

Put your request in 1 year in advance and you can get ANYTHING you want in RCI. 4800 for a 2 bedroom, 3400 for a 1 bedroom and 2400 points for a studio.
