I talked with an HGVC person who said that my 1200 points deposited with RCI last year can ONLY be used for an off season studio week. Even if there are availabilities less than 45 days out for a larger unit, I still can't get those. This is news to me. And if true, it seems rather arrogant on Hilton's part. Can anyone confirm what she said? I have off season Fairfield points weeks that can be used to book any availability inside 45 days. IP: Logged |

To my understanding of the HGVC system, points are not "deposited" with RCI. HGVC "charges" a certain number of points, depending on the size of the unit requested and the season, to initiate a search of the RCI inventory. The number of points does not change within a particular "window".While you may feel that this is unfair and arrogant of HGVC, it is also the case that, with the HGVC system, you can parlay a high value week (e.g., 7000 points) into several RCI weeks. I think the minimum point requirement is about 1200, which means you could get five weeks of exchanges for one week of time. Note that, with HGVC, you are also probably more likely to get an exchange, since HGVC points seem to have a very high trading power. I think this is another case of "different strokes...". If you asked me, I would certainly rather have the ability to get multiple weeks for my deposits. Ciao, Tom IP: Logged |

In Hilton points are a set amount for a trade. It was however my understanding that you could add an additional amount of say 3600 points from a future or current year point total to your 1200 on deposit to get a 2br RED.There is no discount on points because of last minute trades. If this is not the case please let me know. I have never deposited to RCI so I could be wrong. Short IP: Logged |

HGVC you get what you pay for. No upgrades in size or season. It has always been this way.Not true with FF. That is why I use both for different situations. FF to get easier trades and get my free upgrades, and HGVC to get impossible trades in exactly the size I want and must pay for. IP: Logged |

I have been told that if my points are deposited, they are good one year forward before they expire. If the points are not going to be used before they expired the following year, they can be deposited with RCI, and are good for 2 years.Anyone else hear of this? I think you are confusing apples and oranges. BANK and DEPOSIT are different things with different companies. You can BANK your HGVC points forward from one year to the next year. So your points don't actually leave HGVC. Cost $69, and it must be done BEFORE the year starts. So too late for 2005, it should have been done by Dec 31/2004. Depositing in RCI is a different animal, you are no longer in the HGVC system. Once deposited into RCI, yes you get 2 years to book and use an exchange. IP: Logged |
