I did it. I couldn't control myself anymore. I'd been reading and searching. I gave in and....yes....purchased my first timeshare. I'm hounded by negative nay-sayers- "a timeshare???" they say with a look of disbelief "on EBAY??" more looks of incredulous follow. "Yes." I say with a smug smile. So, please back me up here- I found a late June week, studio at the Driftwood, in Vero Beach, FL for under a thousand bucks, including this year's maintenance fee. That's pretty good right?? I've contacted them by phone personally- and they have been nothing short of wonderful in answering my questions- Everything I've read so far indicates I did pretty well on the price. Any advice you can offer me is much appreciated, remember in new and tender- be kind! Thanks to all of you who offer advice on a topic that is so complex- ~cmp Winter Park, FL ------------------ Cristina M Parson IP: Logged |

I'm guessing that since you did your research beforehand, you did OK. (That's just a guess, because I don't know anything about that particular timeshare resort.) But as to the larger topic of eBay bargains, I'm right with you in standing up to the naysayers -- & not just for eBay timeshare bargains, either. Sure, our Floating Diamond 3BR Orlando lock-off timeshare came from eBay (at a ridiculous price). But so did our 1992 Chrysler PT Cruiser, our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, most of my sneakers & jeans, my Yamaha French horn, & I don't know what all. Plus, we've sold a bunch of stuff on eBay. Lately, however, for selling stuff we've been using CraigsList.org as an eBay alternative. That's because eBay charges listing fees & sale commissions but Craig's List is free. Yay (resale) timeshares ! Yay eBay ! Yay Craig's List ! -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

Fizz,You be sure to return from that vacation with a lot of pictures of your fabulous trip and accomodations. You'll want to practice your narrative, as well. the naysayers most certainly will not *remember* ever giving you a hard time but that would insure they never do again. Meanwhile, you might ask where they are vacationing this summer? Repeat photo/narrative process after each exchange to a fabulous location you always dreamed of ... the inevitable "How did you afford it?" will be asked. "Remember when you thought I was nuts to buy a timeshare off eBay?" timeshare got a bad name a long time ago and people fear what they don't understand. The best way to overcome it is by example. Let em think you're nuts, they'll think you're a genius when they finally *get it* be patient, it'll take time. you will be looked at funny for a while. I was, until my mother and brother joined us on a trip. I'm not an old hand, but under a grand including maint sounds good. I hope the place surpasses your expectations and you end up congratulating yourself all over again when you take that vacation! congrats!!

Now will you be able to control yourself when the next too good to be true timeshare bargain shows up? If you are like most of the rest of us, this will not be your last timeshare!IP: Logged |

We bought our first timeshare on ebay too, and it has done well for us. We looked at stuff for almost a year before we actually bought (TUG was awesome and helped us make a good decision). Never had any problems, have always gotten the trades we have wanted so far, and are beginning to look for a second one! (I don't want to be stuck in Indiana all winter when we retire!!!) So, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! Have fun! It sounds like you did well! AmyIP: Logged |

to the OP. On ebay this Thurday night we won Driftwood ocean front unit 3031 week one with a snipe bid placed 6 seconds before the auction ended. That was our first bid on that auction and it beat out a snipe bid placed 25 seconds before the auction closed. On the last 1/2 day of the 7 day auction the price more than doubled. We sent in the bank cashiers check yesterday. That made this week our thrid ownership week at this resort.Last night we had our offer excepted for anther ocean front unit 3030 at the Driftwood and it is a week 11 and sent in bank cashiers check this morning. So that will make 4 weeks for us at this resort and 6 ownership weeks in Florida which is not very many yearly weeks when compared to the 50 or more timeshare weeks in Wisconsin. For those of you that do not know this resort go to http://www.thedriftwood.com and take the virtual tour of this unique non cookie cutter type resort. We stopped in last week 52 to eat when the Driftwood was mostly closed for repairs but my bride really loved the dump and our "D" and "E" units locations. This resort IMHO is certainly not for everyone but the staff is great and I like the resorts uniqueness. Bruce ------------------ Bruce F. & Judy Czajkowski, Kansasville Wi. I have seen this resort while visiting my property at Disney's Vero Beach resort. It is like an old friend to many but to us it was more like a bunch of sticks. NOW that is because we are old and therefore cannot appreciate all the fun you'll have there. When I was a young woman we loved camping and going on sponteous vacations where we never knew if we would have a bed or sleep in the car. Who cared we were having fun. Like the last poster said it is not for everyone but there are many loyal Drftwood fans out there who will be envious of your ownership. Heck if you figure you got a week free this year since the MFs have been paid, you are probably only paying around $500 for this nice ocean front property. Remember Location, Location, Location. Good luck in your very sticky vacation paradise!IP: Logged |

Fizzy, what is you unit number and have you taken the Driftwoods virtual tour? I am pretty sure no matter were your unit is located you should be able to hear the ocean at most times. The virtual tour really opened my eyes on just how unique our resort is. It has to be one of the very few US timeshare resorts to be designated as a historial landmark. If you click onto the 232 "D" note the stained glass windiow in the bedroom and the unique sleeping loft. Our 230"D" week 10 unit was the first one we bought. There are only 4 of the one bedroom "D" units and only four of the 3000 numbered ocean front units. This IMHO makes those units far more exclusive than any of the newer resorts units. Those units make all the newer type resorts unit look bland in their sameness in comparison. In fact there is no really no comparison. If you click on to 3011 you might be surprized just how close those 4 units in that 3000 group are to the ocean. In fact all 4 of our units are with in 200 feet of the ocean. Even our unit 220"E" the one that is a a ocean view instead being ocean front like our 3 Driftwood ownerships. We are looking foward to returning back to the Driftwood and enjoying its uniqueness. First, I want to thank you all for responding, I joined TUG- I feel much better about my acquisition, and frankly- I can't wait to check it out in person. Even living near Orlando- it has been ages since we've made it to the beach. The Driftwood has been SUPER in answering my questions and making me feel welcomed and appreciated as a guest. That, to me, speaks volumes. Our unit is in Building A- its unit 401 -a studio. I would have preferred a bigger unit- but this one was available and the perfect week for us. I think it makes the perfect starter unit. I was told even though it is not ocean view, that it is an attractive vista. My assumption is I won't want to be in looking out- rather out enjoying all of the location from all different angles. The Driftwood sent me a welcome packet including the history of the buildings, a couple of postcards showing the resort and my own Driftwood key chain. I figure if we love it even half as much as CZ does, maybe we can find a great deal and work our way up to a bigger unit!Just FYI- right now on Ebay there is a 2br/ba in Lehigh Acres- week 23- currently going for $1.00 + plus the closing and MF for this year. I wish I had a lil extra money- even though its 40 mins to the beach- I bet it would be niceeee. (I hope it's okay that I included that info- I am in NO WAY affiliated with the seller or owner or anyone else on Ebay- I just saw the deal and it seemed so good- I wished I could take advantage but I'm not in the position to right now. Perhaps another one of our members is! If I offended anyone please accept my apologies in advance- I meant no harm!!) Peace and many bargains to you all!! I assume you are kidding. I've purchased a number of nice weeks on Ebay, the last two for $100 and $268 respectively (low MFs too). I will, however, only buy at resorts that I have previously visited. IP: Logged |

Lehigh Acres is not a very desirable resort, and June (week 23) is not high season there, although RCI probably considers it red. I see smaller Lehigh units going for almost nothing (except closing costs) all the time. I don't know if this being a 2br would increase the value much -- I guess it would depend on how much more the MF is for a 2 br. I think the best reason to buy at Lehigh Acres would be to get trading priority in RCI for other VRI resorts. IP: Logged |

Fizzy, what you need to remember about my posts and my views is that I am a nutty timeshare addict who having a bit of fun playing with a "couple of timeshare weeks". I think I still need to buy more ownerships so I can double the amount of weeks I can book and play with.In regards to the resort newsletter did you see were the minimum bids of $1,800 for any ocean front units regardless what the week number is? I think we got 2 pretty good deals on our latest two ocean front units, the first for week one but especially the week eleven has me really smiling. Our weeks 10 & 11 make a nice vacation pairing to use in 2007 when my bride is retired. Bruce ------------------ Bruce F. & Judy Czajkowski, Kansasville Wi. Hello Fizzy T, Congratulations! As another inland Floridian, I also just recently purchased a beach t/s. Mine is just about an hour away (if I speed across Alligator Alley) and Vero is probably about the same distance from Winter Park. Just think how great it will be to totally chill out and relax after a quick drive! Sure beats spending an extra couple of days traveling to & from someplace! And a balmy ocean breeze with 90 degree temps for us Floridians is absolute heaven! Enjoy it! ------------------ Helen IP: Logged |
