I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone at the Strand via the email address listed in the archives. Who & how should I contact the resort to get my week?

Thanks!

Do you mean Strand Pavilion? If so, try livy@strandpavilion.co.za
Good luck

Doesn't your fixed week just show up automatically on the RCI Website as being available for deposit? My Strand weeks show up right on schedule exactly two years prior to check-in dates.

I own a floating week. Thanks, I'll try the email you suggested. If it's the same one in the archives, though, I already tried it once.

Thanks!
Ann

I didn't know that Strand offered floating weeks. I checked some old emails from them and did come up with more addresses. I will paste them below. I hope one of these works for you.

Thanks very much for your suggestions--I've been able to make contact. I've just been asked whether I want to deposit my 2005 week. I didn't know they allowed advanced reservations. Info?

Yikes! They just said that maintenance for 2005 will be approximately $574. Doesn't this seem awfully high?

$574?? WOW! That is much more expensive than any of my US timeshares mf. It is an awful lot considering that I bought SA because of the price and the lower mf.If this means that all SA me will increase that drastically, I will have to go out of the SA business.

I have banked my fixed weeks well in advance. They now ask that the levy be paid before banking.

That is way out of line with the past increases. I kept all my past statements and found the following for a 1BR 'Luxury' unit without any discounts applied for early payment:

2001....R1411
2002....R1523
2003....R1628
2004....R1739

Those are consistent increases of about 7% in terms of Rand. To get to US$574 at the current exchange rates the 2005 levy would need to be about R3500. That means a doubling of the 2004 levy. Let's hope that they miscalculated or are misinformed.

"without any discounts applied for early payment"

Are you given discounts for early payment at the Strand?

Thanks

Yes, owners are offered discounts for timely payment. For the 2004 levy, a 10% discount was offered if paid by 1/31/04, and a smaller 5% discount was offered if paid by 3/31/04. The same offer has been in effect since I purchased several years ago.

Since two of my weeks fall in the first quarter this is not really an 'early' payment. I always pay them in time to get the full 10% discount.

Below is the message from Livy when I questioned the mf for 2005.

We have not finalised the 2005 levy as yet it will be decided at the AGM at the end of August but I estimate the 2005 discounted levy (10% discount if settled by 31/01/2005) for your 1 bed standard Unit not to be more than R1600 as the increase is in the region of 7%. The exchange today is 5.95 rands to the dollar = $ 268.91
I trust this is in order
regards
