I agree with Diane, TUG is a good place to advertise. Also, check out Cape Escape. http://www.capeescape.co.za/ They charge R290 (about $45) advertising and marketing fee up front plus 15% sales commission after it is sold. Use Cape Escape's extensive website listings as a guide in deciding on your asking price. As Diane said, price it right and it will sell. I recently listed a SA timeshare with them, and it sold within a few months. Jack

I reccommend CapeEscapes especially if you own a peak week. I listed my unit on TUG for 3 months without selling it. I then listed it with CapeEscape and sold it for more (even after commissions) than I was asking on TUG. The week I was selling was 1/2 the price of the other weeks listed on CapeEscapes. I think it did not sell on TUG because Tuggers did not want to pay a a premium for a peak week. If you bought the unit from CapeEscape there is no advertising / listing fee if listed with them. You only pay the 15 % commission when it is sold. IP: Logged |

This seems like an appropriate topic. The market and discussion on South African weeks has taken a dive. ------------------

I continue to see decent trades in off season with our SA's, which is the time we like to travel. We still have a use for SA's, so we'll always keep one or two. They're so cheap to own. We are fine tuning our portfolio by selling off a couple SA's and buying a stronger trader or two for high season trades. Some say the SA honeymoon is over, but we're sticking to our SA marriage for the long haul. Jack ------------------ Life's short. Fish hard. IP: Logged |

So are we. We still get good trades with our 1BR SAs. Mostly off or shoulder season but occasionally prime time, and often GCs and 2 BRs. We recently booked a prime season week in Cabo San Lucas in a beachfront GC. As far as I can see, and the devalued dollar aside, we still get the same benefits that spurred us to buy them in the first place.

Don't jump to the wrong conclusion. The reason many (of us) SA owners don't post as often on this board as we did during our first excitement of owning is because our attention now is on other aspects of timesharing. Meanwhile, we continue to quietly trade our SA's and enjoy great cheap vacations. I'm sure there are many clam-happy SA owners out there whom we rarely hear from. Wow! Recalling all the great low cost vacations we've had with our SA's gives me goose bumps. I check this board frequently, but except to brag (which I rarely do) about snagging great exchanges I don't have much new to say. Jack ------------------ Life's short. Fish hard. IP: Logged |

I am one of those clam-happy SA owners who does not post often. With one of my 2006 weeks, I just booked the Sunterra Ridge (Sedona) for June 2005 and Morritt's Grand Resort for summer 2006. I have a week at the Manhattan Club reserved for February 2005 and the Sheraton Vistana for Easter week 2005. All done with my inexpensive, low maintenance fee SA's. Thanks King1 for the introduction to SA!! Yes, I am indeed very happy. ------------------ Liz IP: Logged |

You're welcome, Liz, although I don't remember what I said. I'm a very happy SA owner, particularly with the low levies. Just paid the 06 estimated levies on my six SS weeks and they averaged only about $120 each. That's about a 100 per cent increase in 5 years, due both to the Rand rate decrease and inflation in real Rands. My SA weeks are still getting us good trades, just not as good as several years ago. I have only anecdotal evidence, but strongly feel that a large part of my SA trade power decrease is due to changes in RCI inventory, for whatever reason. I won't open that can of worms (snakes?) here!! IP: Logged |

Many very good trades can be had with SA weeks and I'm very happy. The sad part is I pay more in RCI exchange fees than I do in MF's. SA weeks will continue to be viable until the Rand or RCI (and it's rentals?) prices them out of the market. IP: Logged |

I sold my Rivera Resort (Cape Town) week on Ebay, and did pretty well with it. Easy, quick, and the Rivera was *great* about doing the transfer themselves. IP: Logged |
