Just a note on Marriott. I have a friend who owns the Marriott Kauai and he banks holiday weeks with them and still cannot match up with trades he wants in II. I was able to get him something via RCI in Santa Fe New Mexico in April of 2002 that he could not get via II. I got his 4th of July 2001 week in exchange. I have also seen members of TUG get Paris and Italy time (like November of 2002) via RCI and he has ongoing searches at II and cannot get them for over a year now.So beware of the Marriott and II. You can't always get what you want. Even for the high prices they charge for weeks. ------------------ John We get to vote once every two years. Big money votes several times every day. One caveat on the Marriotts -- I would guess that many Marriott owners buy with the intention on only trading into other Marriotts, which is where the II situation is much better. Marriott owners do have a priority over non-Marriott owners regardless of location, season or week. Otherwise, I can see your point if you try to trade into non-Marriott locations.

Just another Marriott confirmation, for being really happy staying in the Marriott System. The priority we get within the Marriott system really helps with trading. I've been able to use lock-outs and trade them outside the 60 day window and get what I want, get 2BDR. It's been mentioned before, but you will do better with the call-in system rather than the in-line reservations.

I would suggest Fitzpatrick Castle Holiday Homes in Dublin, Ireland. I have found nothing in the world that I can't trade into. There only 9 units and several million people a year visiting. Low maintenance ($300 for a 2bdrm) and resales for 2500 to 3500. Beautifully maintained units in a suburb of the 2nd largest city in the British Isles.

Try New Orleans (NO) LA. You can buy resales in the $4000 range. I always get the exchange from II that I request. I just recently got DIsney Old Key West in Orlando FL for an "Nawlins" deposit. I also got bonus weeks from II and SFX for my NO deposits. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ P E H

The maintenance fee for our 1 bdrm at HGVC Hilton Hawaiian Village is only $460. We were already HGVC members, otherwise you would have to add $79 for HGVC club dues. I don’t know if $460 falls into the reasonable rates category but it seems pretty decent to me. ------------------ Juanita

I'll add one more So Cal resort to the list. I recently added two summer San Diego Gaslamp studio weeks to my RCI account and they performed almost, if not identical, to my Aquamarine summer week. I don't own there but am helping a friend get use to using her weeks. If you can believe it, she bought six years ago and has never used her week! Now, that's a shame considering it's trade power. I think the studio has higher maint than my 1BR AV but if you could get one at a decent price it would make for an excellent online trader. We seem to have no problem reserving summer weeks also. ------------------ Kelly

Consider a high-demand European destination. My 1 BR Il Poggio (Italy) trades the same as AV and the other So Cal coastal weeks. The MF fluctuates with the currency exchange, but for 2001 was only about $217.

A little different angle here. Since you're in Florida, why don't you consider the Gulf or possibly the St. Augustine area? They're extremely hard to trade into in late winter/early spring. I'm finding out the hard way that having my resort in my home state would make it a lot easier to keep tabs on what's going on in my homeowner's association. Considering I own two weeks in a resort 1500 miles away which is in the midst of a financial controversy, I wish I had the advantage of proximity right now...Tom Rice

Hello all. My sister wants to buy a timeshare. We own two DK weeks, but I told her if I had the money to buy right now, I would probably buy Aquamarine or Blue Whale. I'm going to be really jealous when she gets great trades. Can you tell me who to contact about those weeks and how much they run? TIA, ------------------ Melanie melpollard@hotmail.com[This message has been edited by Melanie (edited 08-03-2001).]

A surprise "sleeper" may be Surfcrest Beach resort, on the coast in Washington State. It is a standard resort that trades well and is in high demand because of it's Pacific Northwest, coastal, beach front location. No developer sales, limited resale market, currently shares are selling for around $ 8,500, which gets you a 1/6th share... averages 8 weeks a year...only slightly more than $ 1,000 per week for a surprisingly good trader. We've owned for twenty-five years, and love the place. 8 weeks provides a good mix of using it ourselves, with ample opportunities for trading. ------------------ dale - owner - Wapato Point, Surfcrest, Worldmark, Morritt's Tortuga Club

Has anyone compiled a top 10 list based on the responses to this thread? That would be interesting to see.Actually, we should have a list of best locations and a list of individual resorts. Neal
