It has been 4 yrs since we stayed at our Pono Kai/Kapaa timeshare and will be there in two weeks. Please share your favorites as I am sure some we liked have probably changed owners.
We are hoping Santa Claus will bring us an updated Kauai Revealed book as we told our grown kids that is what we wanted. But just in case ...

We love fish, Vietnamese, Thai, Hawaiian. Thanks in advance

For casual dining we enjoy: TomKats Grille in Koloa, Green Garden in Hanapepe, and Brick Oven Pizza in Kalaheo.

We recommend some of the casual places where the locals eat. We like Barbecue Inn, Hamura's, and Dani's in Lihue. If you go to Hamura's for noodles, be sure to try the lilikoi (passion fruit) chiffon pie. It is the best dessert in all of Kauai.

Try Bamboo Bamboo in Hanalei
Try Bali High in Princeville
Try Keoki's in Poipu

Avoid by several miles Panda Garden in Kapa'a--worst Chinese food on the face of the earth and lousy service.

Don't miss the seafood buffet at the Princeville Hotel on Friday evening. It is out of this world !!! Get there early in order to get a table on the veranda with a fantastic view. My husband says that the view is worth the cost of the meal.

If things are still the same, TomKats in Koloa for casual dining and then Keoke's at Poipu for Hula Pie.

We really like the Bull Shed. Right on the ocean not too far south on the same side of the road as the Pono Kai. They serve beef and fish.

Most romantic sunset ... Beachhouse in Poipu ... make reservations early in your trip or before you go ... Most romantic setting ... Princeville Hotel ... Friday night seafood buffet is incredible ... best value for decent food ... Bull Shed in Kapaa or the Dolphin in Hanalei. We always enjoyed drinks at Tahiti Nui in Hanalei as well ... but Mama Nui passed away recently ... and it just isn't the same!

Pacific Cafe is a must. Make reservations no later than 7PM as they tend to run out of certain dishes.

It's hard to beat Duke's Canoe Club in the Kauai Marriott. They have a casual bar area, and a more formal dining room. You should be able to find a coupon for free hula pie!!

I second the Bull Shed. We have always had a great meal there at a reasonable price.

We also go to Gaylord's every time we are in Kauai. One of these times I am going to make it to the Beach House on the south shore; I have heard only good things about it.

Since your in Kapaa anyway, don't forget the L&L Drive Inn,down by foodland next to Wahoo's( the old fishbowls ).
Of course it isn't a drive in anymore, but the chicken katsu mini at $4.25 is more than I can eat in one setting.
We like to get to go meals and eat on our lanai, then save the rice for the birds and chickens the following morning
Another newer place is the Polynesian Cafe in Hanalei, right behind the Hanalei mixed plate in the Ching Young market.
Gourmet food on paper plates is their slogan.
They had the best Ahi dish there in September, mmmmm..
Did you get your new Kauai revealed?
Greg

Duke's Canoe Club, both upstairs and downstairs - it's the best!!! We also enjoyed the Country Kitchen in Kapa'a for the banana macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup, with a side bowl of fresh pineapple! And Keoki's Paradise in Poipu is another favorite. For those staying at the Marriotts, the MVC desk will provide a discount card for some of these restaurants.
And another favorite, kind of like a sports bar, was The Shack, on the east side of the island - may have been in Kapa'a.

Yes, Santa daughter-in-law #1 gave us both Kauai & Maui Revealed and DIL #2 gave us a gift card to a book store. We made out like a bandit. Santa hubby gave me a beautiful leather jacket but I think I will leave that home and not take to Kauai/Maui Mahalo again to all of you neat Tuggers. Are we a neat breed of folks!!!

The Beach House and Roy's, both in Poipu, have great food and drinks. The Princeville Hotel has a wonderful atmosphere.

The Hanalei Dolphin, which is located just as you pull into Hanalei on the right hand side of the road.
