Yeah! I am in a similar one with Marriott and currently working on direct exchange to Phuket. It really works and saves lots of money in exchange fees. We have done it 4 times with Marriott owners. One hidden advantage is you are more apt to get the EXACT date you want which is important when you are trying to put two weeks together. We own Platinum 2 bedroom lockoff at Westin Mission Hills. We're still waiting on at least ten owners who expressed interest but have not responded to subsequent emails I sent at the beginning of January.I sent out an email on Monday advising these individuals to reply or be dropped from the data base. Hopefully, we'll be up and going by the end of January! I'll send out an email when we're ready. Sorry it's taking longer than I originally planned. If you don't mind sharing, we would love to know how much you are paying. We haven't seen too many resales at this resort yet. ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Whoa! I was just considering a Sheraton ts in Scottsdale to purchase through resale. Are you saying I would be at a pretty bad disadvantage if I wanted to trade to another Starwood resort? Thanks, Jeff [This message has been edited by korndoc (edited 04-08-2005).] IP: Logged |

Yes - If you read through the old posts, you will see that the most popular resorts to trade into are Ka'anapali, Harborside and St. John. With owners from 12 different resorts trying to exchange into "the big 3" the competition is tough, especially during peak travel times. If you are very flexible, and can travel during the off-seasons, it is a little easier, but not guaranteed by any means. Also, consider how many StarOptions your Sheraton Dessert Oasis is worth. This is the trading value of your unit. It will not be worth enough StarOptions to exchange into the big 3 resorts during some seasons/some units. More info. about that here - http://www.tug2.net/advice/Starwood_Vacation_Network.htm If your primary goal is to go to one of the big 3 resorts, you should buy a resale at one of them. If you primarily plan to use your home resort, and maybe occasionally exchange, then you should be ok. The best deal for you would be to buy a RESALE at a MANDATORY resort (a resort that awards StarOptions on a resale.) SDO is not a mandatory resort. There are many discussions on this board about exchanging thru Starwood - if you go back and read the old posts, you can find a lot more info. ------------------ Denise [This message has been edited by dbmMayer (edited 04-08-2005).] IP: Logged |

I just wanted to add that we only paid $2,100 on ebay for our every-other-year 1 bdm. premium unit at SDO, so if you are still planning on buying there, compare that to what the developer is asking. We can't trade within SVN with it, but we didn't buy it for that purpose - we bought it to use during spring training.------------------ Denise [This message has been edited by dbmMayer (edited 04-08-2005).] IP: Logged |

Nope, bcause they don't WANT you to buy a resale! But they're listed on the TUG webpage I posted for you above. ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Thanks again Denise. That website gave me a wealth of information. Apparently, even buying resale at a mandatory resort carries disadvantages with trades into II and an inability to use the Starpoints program...something that appealed to me in the presentation. Oh well. I will keep researching. Boy, it's good to be a TUG member! Jeff IP: Logged |
