BTW, for that to have been the case, it would have to have been a glitch that has been there for the last 23 months, and then suddenly corrected itself this morning.

Actually, the more I think about it, since I have done this search daily, for years, and there never has been a sudden, last-minute appearance of stuff, it's more like the glitch has been there since the beginning of rci.com, and then suddenly corrected itself this morning.

So, I am not putting much stock in that explanation.

But thanks.

And Happy Holidays.

Yes, it looks like exchangers are getting a shot at the unrented inventory that RCI could not previously unload at higher prices. Or maybe it's just a lot of late deposits from folks getting their maint. fee bills.

I'd guess that your missing weeks have been in the great RCI rental pool in the sky, and now at the last minute they are going to try to get the $149 exchange fee. Just my guess!

They're going fast!

"The following 27 Resorts have availability during your requested time frame."

Shame on y'all, for thinking those bad thoughts.

Jim,
A similar situation happened to me twice. Once a few years ago, several Tuggers were meeting in Sedona. I really wanted to go, but ended up taking a Fairfield Flagstaff for the next week. About 10 days before I was to go to Flagstaff, several units appeared for Sedona that had not been there the day before. Similarly going to Hawaii the next year, I found several units appearing about 10 days out.

This was before RCI was renting so many weeks, or at least we knew about them renting weeks. I know about the 45 days, but have seen the 10-14 days at least twice. Don't know why there is suddenly availability.

Maybe this is a good ask RCI question, but doubt if we'd get a good answer.

Hawaii has always had a strong 14-day window, because so many cancel their exchanges at the last minute, but that has never happened in Florida, where there is not a high cancellation rate.

Our annual Peak Season 14-day Window thread is now running on the Hawaii board.

FWIW, you could have "switched" to Sedona for another exchange fee. You call a Guide and have them cancel your first exchange and make the second, using the same week. We have done that before and is one of the reasons I keep searching until the day we leave.

As I've said, this is the first time Florida ever had a sudden urge at the last minute. Also, if you have followed this thread, or the first two versions of it, the timeframe I am searching is the first one that failed to have decent availability all along. That combination catches my curiosity.

I have been following your thread. Knew I could have changed to Sedona, but didn't and really enjoyed Flagstaff. If I ever go back to AZ will probably stay in Flagstaff again.

Holy Moly Batman!

Just when you thought all of the back room has been cleared out, another day dawns and another load of "excess" something-or-other makes it into the exchange pool.

This morning:

Florida/Florida for 12/29/04-2/1/05

“The following 42 Resorts have availability during your requested time frame.”

Including a TUG favorite Orlando resort:

“2 8 / 6 Full 12/31/2004 Exchange
S 4 / 2 Partial 01/01/2005 Exchange
2 8 / 6 Full 01/01/2005 Exchange
3 12 / 8 Full 01/01/2005 Exchange
2 8 / 6 Full 01/02/2005 Exchange
3 12 / 8 Full 01/08/2005 Exchange
3 12 / 8 Full 01/09/2005 Exchange"

This search was down to 27 resorts the last I checked last night and the resort shown above was down to just one studio left for the month.

Let me review, and capsulize, because I am going to start a new thread on the Exchanging Board, for comments:

These are searches I do every day, and have been doing every day, since RCI.com began, and that I have recorded since 3/27/02.

Needless to say, the following comments are based on thousands of searches over many years.

There has never been a last-minute surge in any of these searches.

On 12/16, for all of Florida, for 12/28/04-2/1/05, I saw:

"But now, looking at "Florida" for next month, there are only 8 resorts anywhere."

And the search of my beloved SW FL had not shown more than 2 resorts available since 5/2/04, and that was just a temporary bump, since it had been mostly 1 or zero.

Then, on 12/19, I report:

"Today, three days later and 13 days before the first checkin date, there are 29 resorts available!!!!"

12/20 I reported:

"OK. What's going on. Today is 12/20/04. For SW Florida for 12/28/04-2/1/05, I have not seen more than 2 resorts available since 5/2/04. Most days it has been 1 or Zero.

Today suddenly there were seven, including a Gold Crown on Marco Island, which disappeared within five minutes of when I first saw it. All checkins today are for the first weekend in '05.

On 12/16/04, as reported that day in this thread, there were 8 resorts for all of Florida in that timeframe. Today there are 50. Most of these are for the first weekend checkins."

Late 12/20 I reported:

""The following 27 Resorts have availability during your requested time frame."

And this morning, 12/21, I see this:

"Holy Moly Batman!
Just when you thought all of the back room has been cleared out, another day dawns and another load of "excess" something-or-other makes it into the exchange pool.

Like yesterday, the stuff that appeared this morning is getting whittled down:

"The following 31 Resorts have availability during your requested time frame."

Really, truly great stuff is appearing for 1/1/05 checkin. This morning there were two beachfront resorts in SW FL, as opposed to late yesterday when only Lehigh was available. One of those was taken in the time to search it a second time.

The one that was taken was an HGVC Gold Crown and I have only seen a couple of beachfront Gold Crowns in two years of searching for Jan. '05.

Ashas been explained, ongoing searches cannot pick up what is being cancelled, so the best way to get these exchanges is rci.com, it appears.

What a shock!

Today, entering the dates I have been entering every day for the last two years, I get the message "Search dates must be more than 3 days in the future."

3 for SW, 41 for all of Florida, for next month, starting next Friday.

Are you saying, if I have an ongoing search for a specific resort and RCI gets a cancellation for that resort, my search will not find it? What is the point of an ongoing search, especially a late one?

No, that's not what I am saying. In short, I am saying an ongoing search cannot match within 14 days of a checkin date.

In this thread:

http://www.tug1.net/tugbbs1/Forum2/HTML/008395.html

in my post 12/22, where I am posting what Feedback said, they said that ongoing searches are suspended 14 days before a checkin date. So cancellations that are received within 14 days of a checkin date will not match up to an ongoing serach.

They are using that explanation to suggest that that is why I saw 8 resorts on Dec. 16 and 50 resorts, with multiple unit sizes and check-in dates on Dec. 19th. Had I counted everything it certainly would have been into the hundreds of units.

Between the 16 and the 19th, the 14 day time frame would have occurred, but hundreds of cancellations in three days is pretty far fetched.

In addition, what appears to be new inventory in substantial numbers appears to be showing up every morning, although some it could be units released from Holds.

Wow, has it been that long?

2007 starting out like 2006 has been from the beginning--sparse.

But, for the last week there has been some moderately decent stuff for 2006 that no one seems to want.

A new year. A good time to stop and assess.

There has not been much reporting because there has not been much to report. Two years ago availability got very sparse, and that has not changed.

Here's how it's been this time of year looking at the following January each year (11 months out):

2002-10 resorts available for January 2003
2003-7 for 2004
2004-1 (with no significant recovery) for 2005
2005-2 for 2006

2007 does not look any better. Thusfar there have only been 2 available.

The only newsworthy event was that between December 16th and 19th availability for this January suddenly blossomed, with stuff being offered elsewhere, I guess, making it to the exchange pool. Gold Crowns for SW Florida appeared. For all of Florida the number of available resorts went from 8 to more than 50 and was replaced each day, for a couple weeks, with more stuff. That had never happened before.

Spooky, for one who searches every day.

During weekend maintenance RCI added more subareas to the Florida area.

Things have not improved.

Pretty much just Lehigh for January, 2006, with an occasional Charlotte Harbor. Four or five lesser resorts for January, 2007.

I'm now looking more at "Resorts on the Beach", to see how other areas are doing.

Thanks.

I've been out looking for those SW Florida resorts for January.
