Any update on the "New" Bulletin Board? Here's how I feel about our current BBS:

Based upon input from this thread, we'll just start over from scratch with the new board. Everybody will have to register anew. The message base will not be moved into the new board, although moderators can manually copy significant threads they wish to retain into new threads on the new board. The board you are reading now will be kept available in read-only status as a reference.

We've installed the latest version of vBulletin (as opposed to the much older version we had installed because it was the last one that gave us the possibility to convert the current message- and userbases over). Unfortunately, that meant we lost all the customizations we had put into the older version to make it look and feel much like the old familiar TUG board. I've just about got it back to where it needs to be, plus some nice enhancements. The bbs staff is playing with it right now to learn how to do their moderation and maintenance duties.

We got bit by the timing on my new house, or we'd probably be making the switch over in a few days. We start doing our cross-town move this week, and I won't be available for support to the extent I'd need to be when starting up the new board. We should be able to start the new board up before the end of May.

I really don't care about old posts, but is there anyway to make sure you can keep your same UserName? I would be bad if people started using others user names.

"Nancy" is a very special name for me because I was often called that as a kid. I didn't become maverick until much later in life.

I know they're expecting a lot of "maverick" requests so they may have to hold a lottery.

I'm afraid there is no way to protect against this. About all we can do is rely on an honor system and trust that people won't deliberately mess somebody else up. I guess that WILL put a premium on registering as soon as possible after the new board is opened for business.

Perhaps Maverick will settle for Brett and if that is not available, can choose Bart.

[Kel- I've deleted your post, as it constitutes direct criticism of another poster.

I know you mean well, and I do appreciate the support you were trying to give TUG and its volunteers, but this still is not appropriate on this board. If you wish to express your displeasure with this poster directly, her email address is available - just click on the EMAIL icon at the top of any of her posts.

OK... One more last post... Done with TUG and the moderators I just defended in my post that was deleted. I know no one will care, but that's it for me and my $15 a year.

Kel - the point is that personal criticism of another poster is not permitted. That you were trying to defend TUG and its volunteers truly is appreciated, but it still constitutes personal criticism. The rules still apply, even when coming to the defense of TUG. I'm sorry if you feel you must leave, but that's strictly your call. I'm hopeful you'll change your mind after the passion of the moment has passed.

I emailed you a full explanation at the time of the original deletion, but apparently the email address listed for your bbs account is no longer valid as it bounced back. Since discussion of moderation that is applied to this thread is off-topic, please feel free to continue any discussion of it via email. bbsadmin@tug2.net

Kel,
If you have something to say to me, then do so. My email isn't that hard to figure out. If you can't figure it out, try timeshare_guru-AT-hotmailDOTcom.

It's always been that way. When what you want to communicate is personal criticism, you are not permitted to post it to the board, so direct email is your recourse. If a few people had followed this in the past, they could have avoided having their posting privileges suspended.

I recognize things change and improve, but I so much appreciate the information I get on this BBS I am willing to give those that run it lots of slack. They are all VOLUNTEERS...RIGHT!

Doug, Thanks for the info about the new Board. Now I can hardly wait for TUG to completely update is archaic ratings system that I've railed against here from time to time...

Because the original post and most of the replies until the past few days relate to the new BBS, a topic that belongs on this forum.

Maybe I should have said put it someplace where a large number of people would read it; TUG Lounge.

Jim -

Rest assured that when the time for the switch to the new software nears, there will be significant communication beyond this forum.

I hardly ever look at TUG Lounge. The few times I look at it the topic seem to be about "travel?" Survivor results or similar. Quite frankly the Lounge has looked like a place to deposit irrevalant topics. sorry, not for me. Too much specific information under other topics.
