Its been over a year since I first heard this was in the works. What happened? Is it ever going to happen?TUG's software is so behind the times that it isn't funny. Its very cumbersome and un-"user friendly." I know at one point part of the problem was importing the old message database and "count" number for everybody's posts. At this point, who cares? We started over before with the count. We need a new board. If there's no volunteer available to work on it, then Bill should pay someone to do it. It can't be that expensive, to customize an off the shelf board. I'm no longer a volunteer, or in any way responsible for the running of TUG. I'm simply a member who's sad with the lack of importance placed on the new board project. That's another way of saying, its "JMHO." I wondered about this, too, as it is become more of a pain to visit TUG now than ever since I've grown accustomed to the features of other BBSs that allow PM's, email notifications of replies to subscribed threads, etc. And it is so frustrating when I try to search for threads that I know are merely months old and find they no longer exist because they had to be purged for space issues. That never happens on the other BBSs that I frequent. I'm coming here less frequently as a result. [I would visit tstips.com more often for my timeshare fix just because it has a more user-friendly BBS but I don't because I don't find enough activity there to keep me interested in visiting more than once in awhile.] I don't care if I have to start over at count 0 or if we have to start from scratch with no saved threads. Now I know I'm not doing the work on this and I don't have the skills to help. I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I just wanted to share my thoughts. IP: Logged |

I just want to say that I have been extremely happy with Vbulletin. Several forums that I am on use it, and it is excellant! If we move to a more modern forum package, Vbulletin would get my vote. IP: Logged |

I don't see any difference between what I said a couple of weeks ago on the same subject matter or what I tried to established for my reasons against Bill Rogers & what Fern just posted but yet I get the pounding! You people totally amaze me & yet Fern was a former "administrator". Thanks again y'all, you suck-up's! Makes no difference what I say here in this message forum, y'all just luv to jump in my case, thanks again! No offense against you Fern & I trully mean that.------------------ Trev (:>) Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. Gee, Trev. I thought this thread was about the new board. Was I mistaken? I didn't mean it to be all about you, me, or anybody else. You may say that you mean no offense to me in your post, but it surely did feel offensive to me. I quit TUG in large part because I felt I had a target on me, and here you are, pinning it right back on me. Compared to the new Yahoo message board, this one is a prince. I thought they should model TUG. Yahoo has gotten tons of complaints on the new look. I find TUG very easy to use and don't expect it to be more than it is. Guess I don't frequent enough MBs to compare it to.------------------ Patri I went, I'm back, when can I go again? I don't think Fern gave any complaints about TUG or Bill Rogers. She just said that she'd prefer different BBS software. As for how many moderators a group needs, I help run a 13,000 member Yahoo Group and we have 20 or so mods. Having multiple moderators isn't unusual. Yahoo Groups isn't really comparable with TUG because it's a mailing list package, not a BBS/Forum package. For forums, I still say Vbulletin is the way to go. IP: Logged |

OUCH! I seldom come to this section so was surprised by this post. But I agree that it is time to update the bbs. Though I find it useful enough for my needs, I am sure there is more up to date programs/software out there. Rick IP: Logged |

Again Fern, I mean no harm to you what so ever & yet you come back with the reply above. I was only using your words for which you stated for this "BBS" which is what I tried to explain in the same subject matter a few weeks ago for which I was "slammed" again! Then you posted this message & my intent was only to imply what I said in this subject matter. I will state what I said before, I meant no offensive harm to you again, but you seemed to take it a different way as others do here & if that is the way you want to take it, then so be it. I'm so sorry you took it that way, as for the "others" & they know who they are, I can care less for their in-ability to read what I post! Y'all continue to "slammed" me as usual regardless what ya did before & continually do so on a continued basis! ------------------ Trev (:>) Never argue with idiots. Believe me, users cannot be any more tired of this old software than the people that have to keep it patched together. It falls on the Admins to manually make the change whenever somebody wants to update their email address, for instance. And we get scads of messages we have to deal with when people have questions or problems. (Although lots of this could be avoided if people would think of looking in the BBS Help file first.)I've been working on trying to learn how to get our user base transferred to the new board for some months now. In all honesty, this is so frustrating that I only have tackled occasionally. But if this doesn't come together soon, we may just have to close the old board down and require all users to register anew on the replacement board. And by the way, the new board will use vBulletin software. Bill took out a license at my request many months ago. ------------------ Doug Wilson, "The Makai Guy" Email me TUG Volunteer Coordinator & BBS Administrator My websites: North Shore Kauai and Yellowstone 2003 Photo Gallery IP: Logged |

Doug - Don't waste any more time trying to port things. It's no big deal if everyone has register anew. We did it in the transition to this BBS. We'll all survive if we have to do it again. ------------------ Steve Nelson IP: Logged |

Doug, Since it can be done more expediently, we should just start all over. As Steve said, its no big thing. Many of us would welcome the features of a modern BBS System, as I'm sure the volunteers and administrators would.Fern ------------------ Fern Modena İMy words are my own, please don't use them without my permission. I think Trevor has explained himself alittle better in a thread on tips. You can view it here. I understand what he is saying. From what I read he was pissed that he wrote almost the same thing that Fern wrote a few weeks back and got slammed by everyone for doing so. Now a few weeks later it seams that it is ok to post what Fern wrote which is what Trevor wrote a few weeks ago. Trevor Am I correct in my statment. Doug Keep the site the way it is. It makes Tips look better that way Only kidding.
If you start fresh will you lose the reviews?

Yes, you are correct Big Frank & I thank you for your reply, just to add to this thread, I wasn't trying to start-up another controversy. I was merely makin a statement bout how I was labeled as a "trouble-maker" but yet some of the people on this message board can do the same thing & be praised for it. I guess you have to be in a "Click" here to be recognized. I even take it one step further in my statement(s) to "not make someone" stand-out or recognized them I mean no harm but yet I get "slammed" for it again. ------------------ Trev (:>) Never argue with idiots. Conch Man, As I see it the big difference is: Fern is a respected, long time, MATURE contributor to the t/s industry let alone this BBS. Conch Man... as stated earlier... it's all in your presentation. JMHO!

Doug, I'm a software consultant who's "between" contracts right now. I mostly do real-time, embedded systems, and instrumentation. Don't have a lot of experience in web development, but I suspect your problems have more to do with simple data transformations. Anyway, if you think I can be of some help, shoot me an email, and I'll see what I can do. Bob "Blues" Herlien
