I would not go back to:Gatlinburg (once is enough) Ft. Lauderdale (once was too much) Curacao (not friendly to Americans) Barbados (poverty rampant and depressing. Beach unswimmable) Bermuda (not much to do- though pretty) Daytona (dingy) Myrtle Beach (though we stay in North Myrtle or Garden City often) New York City (I go for daytrips but would never stay overnight again) Anywhere cold.

Easy answers: 1-Miami 2-Orlando(never, never) - only exception - flying into Orlando and driving away ASAP!! 3-Almost anyplace else in Florida unless absolutely necessary to visit friends and/or relatives. Exceptions - Sanibel and Key West 4-Bahamas - anyplace - exceptions none 5-Montreal - sadly a beautiful place with some of the rudest people in the Western Hemisphere. 6-Cape Cod 7-Virginia Beach------------------ Jim IP: Logged |

For those of you who would not go back to Cancun, can you say why? We're planning a trip there, first ever, and I like to go in with eyes open!IP: Logged |

I agree. It would be very beneficial for us if you can note why you don't care to return to these places-especially the popular destinations. A few short sentences/phrases would be sufficient. Solvang (Danish community near Santa Barbara, CA). Very pretty place. But once you've seen it, that's it. No need to re visit.

OK... Cancun is to Mexico what Venice Hotel in Las Vegas is to Venice Italy. If you're not expecting Mexico, you might enjoy it more. For me, too much highrise development, too American, and we didn't find any really good snorkeling. You can still make day trips to some very nice spots, including Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and Tulum. Shaggy,From what I remember of Nashville, there was the Country Music Hall of Fame (which wasn't huge), seeing a show at the Grand Ole Opry, and one of the President's home relatively close (can't remember which one). It has been many years since I've been there, but what else is really a major attraction? IP: Logged |

I have to agree with Cancun. While we loved the Royal Mayan it is not a place we would go again for all the same reasons previously stated. Too many Americans, too Americanized and too commercial. The Mayan was pretty good but we went to the Sands and it had all the elements of the "ugly" American. I know this will not be widely accepted but it is the way we felt there. It's like Miami Beach in many respects. Then at the hotels you have to put up with the loud Americans and all their friends from someplace in the heartland who are blowing smoke in your face. I am a former smoker who likes a little bit of second hand smoke but I am talking ridiculous. It's just not for me. This is just an opinion, not grounded in any serious research study or anything like that. Thanks, Harvey

I probably won't go back to Aruba since I don't fancy the constant wind although the food is pretty good. St. Croix is a crappy island as well.
Agreed. Outside of the tourist areas, there's poverty every where. I don't think the natives like the tourists either. ------------------ "Stop me before I buy again!" IP: Logged |

A great topic! I agree with Hibbeln that it is interesting that "one man's meat is another man's poison". Malibu Sky - our elder daughter gave her mother the 1000 Places book as a challenge! We have done a fair few!Would not return to: New Orleans Key West Would return to: Orlando San Francisco New York City London Like Sydney Tugger we come from the other side of the world, and we are in for 10 hours flying to the USA and 24 to Europe. Because there are so many places that we ave never been to and want to see, we aim to spend long enough in a place to satisfy our desires to see what there is to be seen, and to experience the life there. So there are many places that we have "ticked off the list" and wouldn't go back to because we are setting off on a new challenge - currently planning Greece and Turkey! ------------------ Derek S IP: Logged |

3kids4me,Just like any other city, Cancun has its good and bad points. The beach is spectacular, white sand and turquoise water. But, it is a big city, not a little tropical hide-a-way. The Mexican people are wonderful. There are many people who return to Cancun every year. You will not know whether you like it until you go and see for yourself. IP: Logged |

I don't have such a long list, and I am the type of person that if I initially like a place I want t return, but my husband keeps me leveled, and he likes to do one place once and that's it.I would not go back to Jamaica, I hated it, I thought it was dull, and the people were to aggresive and non-friendly to the tourist, plus I did not feel safe. To top it all off, we had horrible weather when we got there. I probably would not go back to Orlando, but the kids really enjoy it, so we might go one more time. I would not go back to Cancun, just not my type of place, I don't even think it is attractive. I just got back from Costa Rica, and I would go there over and over, in a heartbeat. I absolutely loved it. Plus I did not get to do the whole country, I feel like I need to go to so many places, I did not have time to do in a week. The people were just great, the sights awesome, the beaches were really nice, and the prices were great. We actually had lunch once, and it was five of us, it was a little place in a small town, an hour away from Arenal Volcano, and we stopped for a quick bite we all ordered drinks, and it came out to under $10. I told the owner of th place, that must be wrong, we each ordered drinks, but that was the price. I actually gve her $15, because I could not believe it. The roads were bad and bumpy, and we had to drive everywhere, other than that, we loved it. berna IP: Logged |

In Nashville, besides the obvious, GOO, CM Hall of Fame, there are great bars downtown,(Tootsies, Legends Corner) etc. the Ryman, The Opryland Hotel, The Wildhorse, The Nashville Palace, esp talent nights, another museum by the GOO. the General Jackson Showboat, a tour with Tootsies, I really liked the one that includes the cemetery, There is also a very nice zoo, a performing arts center, etc. etc. Oh yeah, on Sunday don't forget the Cowboy Church, and a tour of the stars home. Think I like it there? Oh yeah, and eat at Monell's. shaggy------------------ Leslie Michael IP: Logged |

Actually Las Vegas is someplace I really don't even want to go for a first time. We used to stop there on our trips when I was a child and I've only been back once since I reached adulthood, and that was on a business trip. The reasons I have no desire to go to Las Vegas: 1. Don't gamble 2. Can't stand smoky atmosphere 3. Too glitzy 4. Don't care for the desert That said, I probably will make one short trip there fairly soon as I've promised to take my younger dd to see one of the Cirque shows (which are her passion). Otherwise, I'd be just as happy not to go. ------------------ Luanne IP: Logged |

Been reading these lists with interest and figured I might as well post my own. Although I love most places, I only want to go there once. So when I really want to return one day, it is because I really loved the place. Would return to: 1. San Francisco-absolutely one of my favorite cities 2. Hawaii-even Honolulu 3. Cabo San Lucas-I just love the place 4. London 5. Copenhagen 6. Bejing 7. Monterey, CA\ 8. Napa Valley/Sonoma 9. All of Alaska 10. Barbados-had one of the best vacations I ever experienced Don't care if I ever go back: 1. Philadelphia-absolutely rubs me the wrong way 2. Miami-ditto 3. Most of Florida-except the Keys 4. Nassau, Bahamas 5. Mazatlan 6. Tokyo/and or Japan. The people in Tokyo were great but it didnt seem much different from New York. 7. Amsterdam-but I would go back to Holland in the Spring in a heart beat. It's funny how people can see places so differently IP: Logged |
